It was obvious that Konerko was injured. At some point, he should not have been batting third. If you check his stats, you can make a strong case that he shouldn't have even been playing. Just about anyone would have produced more in the last three or so months. Dan Johnson was a real alternative, at least against righties.
Post all Star game, the White Sox as a team hit .249. Paulie hit .263 during that stretch. Not sure who on that bench could have hit higher than .263 for the 3 months. Dan Johnson hit .267 in Charlotte so I doubt he would have hit better than an injured Paulie
