If you look across the board, most teams have a ton of busts littering their first round for that same timeframe. For example, the Yankees have a pitiful record of first rounders. If it wasn't for some shortstop in 1992 and Hughes in 2004, they've been horrific.
The difference here is that the Yankees have been drafting in the last 5 picks consistently since the early Nineties. The difference between a number 10 pick and a number 27 pick is usually exponential. Regardless of end result, its the difference between a Chris Sale or Gordon Beckham and an Andrew Brackman.
