21 Years!

Posted 04-03-2012 at 04:57 AM by October26 (My White Sox Lunchbox)

This April, I am feeling nostalgic and sentimental as I realize that my daughter (April 3rd) and US Cellular Field (April 18th) will both celebrate their twenty-first birthdays.

It has been twenty-one years since my husband and I eagerly awaited the arrival of our first child. It is hard to believe that our baby girl is now twenty-one years old. Time passes so quickly. Like most expectant mothers, I spent the weeks and months leading up to the birth preparing myself both mentally and...

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Posted 03-17-2012 at 07:09 AM by October26 (My White Sox Lunchbox)

To celebrate spring and in honor of St. Patrick's Day, I'm posting a garden blog entry. I realize spring doesn’t officially begin until next Tuesday, March 20th. However, here in Chicago, it feels like we skipped spring and jumped right into summer. We are having the most peculiar weather in Chicago this spring and as a gardener, I am feeling quite challenged. Last fall, my husband and I planted spring bulbs - daffodils/buttercups & tulips – for our anniversary (October 26). I can't believe...

Rockin' Robin Returns

Posted 03-01-2012 at 05:10 AM by October26 (My White Sox Lunchbox)

Every March, I watch baseball games being played in distant places like Florida and Arizona, knowing that soon baseball will be played on the south side of Chicago. This time of year you will find me feverishly scouring the Internet and newspapers for the latest information on all things White Sox. I recently saw the 2012 Sox Season Schedule advertised in the newspaper and smiled. I send e-mails and text messages to family and friends, and make plans to attend Sox games this coming season.

Happy Groundhog Day! Today, in my White Sox Lunchbox, I have a hearty helping of “daydreaming” to share with you.

Turning over the calendar to a new month yesterday made me realize that we are inching, ever so slowly, toward that magical day when Sox baseball returns: Opening Day! Of course, my elation is tempered by the reality that many cold, gray, and often rainy or snowy February and March days are still ahead. January, February, and March are traditionally difficult months...

Food for Thought

Posted 01-12-2012 at 02:28 PM by October26 (My White Sox Lunchbox)

My family and I emigrated from Cuba in 1971. My parents brought me to the United States seeking a better life. As the oldest daughter in blue-collar, working class family, I was encouraged to focus on my studies and do well in school. My parents were kind and generous people who showered me with love and attention, and rewarded me by taking me to baseball games at Old Comiskey Park. I have been a White Sox fan for as long as I can remember.

When I was 10 years old, the one thing...
