In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Chicago sports

Posted 05-28-2009 at 10:24 AM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

I'll put this here instead of a thread.

I find myself disliking Chicago sports, except for the White Sox. Seriously. I don't follow the Bears anymore. I used to be a huge fan. Now I couldn't care less if their QB is Jake Cutler, Rhett Butler or whoever the hell it will be next year. Big freaking deal. Same with the Bulls. YAWN. I don't care.

Now with the Blackhawks. I just saw a thread saying "thank you for this and that" and blah, blah, blah. I never liked...

Book idea-"The 50 Greatest Games That Did Not Involve the Yankees or Red Sox"

I have had an idea for a while-a book entitled "The 50 Greatest Games that Did Not Involve the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox." This book would take a look at games that are, for the most part, overlooked by the ESPN-driven hype fest for the Yankees and Red Sox. The purpose would be to say enough!-to all the damn hype and the books about baseball's great moments being monopolized by those two teams. I mean, come on. ESPN.com last year had a list of great LCS moments, I think it...

"Greatest White Sox Team of All Time" simulation tournament

Posted 05-15-2009 at 03:50 PM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

So I decided to have a little fun with my "Greatest White Sox Team of All-Time" rankings and submit them to a tournament to see who would beat who over a seven-game series. Now I have no delusions about how such scenarios would actually play out. It would be enormous fun if we could somehow get all these teams together and see them play-and how it would turn out. For now, though, I turn to whatifsports.com computer simulations. Kind of stinks in that I would much rather do it the old-fashioned...

To be or not to be...Cubsessed

"Cubsession" n.-An obsession with the Chicago National League Ballclub, Inc. Said to afflict several rooters of the *sneer* other team in town, if one does truly exist. *sneer*

I have been thinking about "Cubsession," that fine, badly overused word coined here on WSI, lately. I have several rambling, disjointed thoughts about it. I just thought I would share a few in the privacy of my own blog, where you are free to come and read it if you like. It isn't on the...

APBA Game 12

Posted 04-28-2009 at 10:27 PM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

Just finished game 12 of my APBA season. It was the type of game that would cause 500 reply postgame threads, server overload and a complete crash-and-burn on WSI were it a real game.

The 1936 Sox took the early 2-0 lead, but Boston answered right back to make it 2-2. The White Sox eventually made it 6-3. Zeke Bonura was in fine form with two 2 RBI hits. John Whitehead (what a name. Just hearing it brings back painful memories of adolesence) pitched well for the Sox. Boston chipped...
