In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Game of the Year 1969

Game of the Year 1969
June 19 vs. Seattle Pilots
at White Sox Park

Both baseball and the White Sox effected wholesale changes for 1969.

Baseball responded to the vaunted "Year of the Pitcher" (only one AL batter, Carl Yastrzemski, batted over .300 in 1968) by lowering the mound to give hitters a better chance. They expanded by four teams (two apiece in each league) and divided into four divisions. Teams would now have to play a League Championship...

Game of the Year 1968

Game of the Year, 1968
July 31 vs. Minnesota Twins
at Metropolitan Stadium

I had a tough time picking the game of the year for the year I came into being, 1968. Not because there were so many to choose from, but because when you follow up on a near-pennant year with a 65-97 record, there really aren't very many games that you could say were stand outs, or that defined a season, except maybe the losing ones.

The White Sox decided they needed hitting and more...

Game of the Year 1967

This is the first of a feature I intend to do if I don't get too freaking lazy, as I did with my ChiCards CallBacks (which I also hope to do more of this football season.)
This is called "Game of the Year" and it highlights one game from each year covered by the group page, 1967-77. I haven't any solid criteria for choosing-just a game that was well-played, maybe the best of the year, or one that had an impact on the team, the season or was not short of dramatics. Like I said, no...

On Facebook I belong to a group page that is devoted to the history of the White Sox from 1967-77. It was in those years that I developed my interest in the team (around 1973 or so) and I love to read about the 1967 Sox, so it is a great trip down memory lane for myself and the other members of the page.

I have posted a lot on the page, including a post that I call "Game of the Year." I chose one game from each of those seasons that I thought was the best, most exciting, most...

Sneering Chicago Sports Media Ass-Greatest Hits

Posted 05-04-2014 at 04:21 PM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)
Updated 04-26-2015 at 01:41 PM by TommyJohn

Way back in the olden days of 2003, I created a WSI habitue known as the Sneering Chicago Sports Media Ass. The SCSMA would show up from time to time to sneer at White Sox fans about how lousy, horrible and unloved their team was, as compared to the great franchise up north that hadn't won anything in going on 95 years.

The inspiration for this character was twofold-the first was Steve Rosenbloom, the normally cynical grouch who has written sports columns for both papers in town,...
