Games and Moments
September 6, 1967
vs. California Angels
at White Sox Park

The White Sox appear to be falling out of the race as September begins. They are 1.5 games back but in 4th place. A 10-2 whomping at the hands of the Red Sox makes it 2.5, but Stanky's boys soldier on, winning 4 of 5 to creep within a game as they meet the Angels on this date.

Once again, the starting pitcher-in this case Joel Horlen-had to be protesting "What's a guy gotta...

Games and Moments August 27, 1967, Part II

August 27, 1967 Part II-Not everybody was happy with Springstead's call on the play that ended Game 1 of the double header. Both Ken Berry and Eddie Stanky vigorously argued the call, with Stanky bumping the ump a few times before the argument was done. Springstead couldn't eject either guy, though, as the game was over.

They weren't the only duo in the park mad enough to confront the ump. During the second game two fans ran out to Springstead, now at third base, and exchanged angry...

vs. Boston Red Sox
at White Sox Park

The surprising Red Sox, 9th place finishers in 1966, come to Chi for a 5 game series all but tied for 1st with the White Sox and with the city of Boston practically hysterical with pennant fever. Boston took 2 of 3 going into this Sunday double header.

Game 1 featured an ending that is still well-remembered and celebrated in Boston sports lore as "The Throw."

vs. Minnesota Twins
at Metropolitan Stadium

The White Sox are evicted from the top spot in the American League on this day, courtesy of a three game sweep handed to them by the Twins. A 3-2 defeat in this game completes Minny's trifecta.

This game was marked by a close play in the top of the 9th, with the Twins leading by the 3-2 score. Tommie Agee, who had homered earlier in the game, led off with a scorching extra base...

Games and Moments
July 31, 1967
vs. Cleveland Indians
at Municipal Stadium, Cleveland

The White Sox go into this contest in 1st place, two games up on the competition.
Rocky Colavito, acquired in a trade from the very same Indians two days earlier, is the star of this game. The Sox and Indians are tied at 2 going into the 10th inning when Wayne Causey singles and Tom McCraw grounds into a fielder's choice. Colavito steps up to the plate and touches ex-teammate...
