The White Sox quickly started to live down to most people's expectations, stumbling out of the gate and unable to find the .500 mark. Turmoil reigned on the field and in the stands during the home opener.

The turmoil started at the end of spring training when Tony Muser, who was expecting to be the man at 1st base now that Dick Allen was gone, lost his job to Carlos May.
