The Knights, for once, refused to die:

The crowd went silent as he took the first pitch and popped out to Gibson, who pumped his fist after catching it. The fans were all but ready to give up. The next night, Orel Hershiser and Tom Schmidt battled to a 10 inning, 0-0 standstill. The game was knotted at that score in the top of the 16th:

The top of the 16th began with the Knights fourth pitcher of the night, spot closer Dick Dralle, taking the mound. It was now very close to midnight, but a huge crowd still remained, still aching to see the historic clincher that was so far failing to happen.

The Knights had a chance to clinch in the first game of the final series with the Dodgers, BUT:

New Orleans threatened in the 9th against Jay Howell. The score stood 5-4 and the fans were in “Here we go again” mode. Howell let the first man on, then a base hit put men on first and second. Still, Knight fans turned out in droves. The team hit the 2 million mark for the 4th time in the past five seasons. Several times the Superdome was packed to the rafters, with fans making so much noise it seemed to threaten to blow the roof off of the joint.

They were in the NL for many years but could never win very many pennants. Their last one was in 1958, when a confluence of events occurred-all the Knights' old men and youngsters got it together and produced a season like no other-winning streaks of 18 and 17 games helped to produce a record of 110-44.
