In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

White Sox 77-74, 4th, 24 GB

The White Sox surged a bit in 1911, toeing the .500 line throughout the season before finishing three games over that mark and returning to the first division after a one-year absence.

The hitting improved this year, indicated by the team BA of .269 and 19 home runs. "Ping" Bodie and Shano Collins led the way with a team record 4.

Ed Walsh continued to be, well, Ed Walsh. He rebounded...

Once again, the Cubs and Sox would take a break from the West Side-South Side uncivil war to allow the Cubs to partake in that year's World Series.

White Sox 68-85, 6th, 35.5 GB

The Sox hit a slump this year, falling to 68-85 and 6th place. It was their first visit to the second division since 1903, when they placed 7th. Former NL batting champ Hugh Duffy took over as manager, making him the first full-time manager (as opposed...

1909 City Series

Updated 02-21-2012 at 08:18 AM by TommyJohn

The Cubs and White Sox would renew hostilities in 1909 after a two year hiatus. The Cubs were still smarting over their 1906 World Series defeat at the hands of the underdog Sox. In 1907-08 they had to settle for pounding lumps on the Tigers, thrashing them twice and running up a postseason count of 8-1-1.

White Sox 78-74, 4th, 20 GB

The White Sox slumped a bit from the previous year, falling back to 4th place and winning 10 fewer games than the previous...

1907-08 No Series

White Sox 87-64, 3rd, 6 GB

OK, so let's get this straight-the 1906 White Sox lag behind in the second division until early August, hit a hot streak that carries them into first place, then go on to win the pennant and the World Series. The 1907 version spends 114 days in 1st place and winds up finishing in 3rd? Got it.

It is true. Fielder Jones' boys held the top spot for most of the season, but were unable to maintain it. They were as...

1906 World Series

Regular Season

White Sox 93-58, 1st, 3 GA

There really was no season quite like 1906 in the annals of Chicago baseball. For the first time since the Sox started in 1901, they and the Cubs finished in first place and faced each other in the World Series, an event which would not happen ever again. In fact, the Sox and Cubs would not finish in first place in the same season for another 102 years.

The two teams were a study in contrasts. The...
