In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

vs. Baltimore Orioles
at Baltimore Memorial Stadium

The world is still recovering from the sight of a baseball team in shorts when the Sox go out to Baltimore for a four game weekend series. The Sox win the first game going into a Saturday doubleheader.

Game 1 appears to be no contest when the Orioles slam Sox pitcher Terry Forster for 8 runs; the big blows are a two run 1st inning home run by Reggie Jackson and a 2nd inning grand slam by...

August 8,1976
vs. Kansas City Royals
at Comiskey Park

This is it, Sox fans! This was The Most Historic Day in baseball history. Forget Game 6 of the 1975 World Series.Forget Don Larsen's perfect game in the World Series. Forget Bobby Thompson's Shot Heard 'Round the World. Forget the world-destroying home run by Bucky Dent or the Bill Buckner error that caused misery, suffering and pain on a scale never before seen in world history. Forget Babe Ruth's 60th home run...

vs. Oakland A's
at Oakland-Alameda Coliseum

By now, the Sox are in 5th place and heading nowhere in a hum-drum season. They dropped the first two games of this series with the A's going into the finale, when two pitchers managed to inject a little excitement into the woebegone season.

The starter for the evening's game was John "Blue Moon" Odom, former A's veteran and member of their three-time World Series winners, who had been acquired...

July 19,1976
vs. New York Yankees
at Comiskey Park

The Sox split their series with the Brewers, then welcomed the 1st place Yankees to the south side. The Bronx Bombers were a team reborn in 1976 and looked on their way to the AL East title. They certainly looked invincible against the Sox, who were 1-9 against them in 1976.

There really wasn't anything exciting or dramatic about the game on this date, except from a personal standpoint. This was the first...

July 15,1976
vs. Milwaukee Brewers
at Comiskey Park

By the time the All-Star break came around, any resemblance between the White Sox and an actual contender was purely a far flung fantasy. The 10 game winning streak was a distant memory. The team went into the break 37-45 and were 10-23 since that fateful June night when Frank Robinson sent them home with his dramatic, game-ending two run homer.

Rich Gossage was the team's lone All-Star that year, but...
