A July 30,1975 Tribune article authored by Dave Condon started with an ominous headline: "Will A's Become the White Sox of '76?"

Condon's story went on to say that MLB had a solution for the Sox' financial situation in mind: move the team to Seattle, where a brand-new, domed stadium awaited, and shift another team to 35th and Shields to take its place. The team would be renamed the White Sox in order to ensure franchise continuity. The team Condon named as the one that MLB...

He's Not Wild About Harry

Bill Melton had had a bad year in 1974. He started the season in a slump and at one point in June his average had dropped to .199. He was among the favorite targets of broadcaster Harry Caray. At the end of the season he admitted that he was upset that the Sox had traded for Ron Santo and wanted out. He then revealed that he had played "horsefeathers" until June hoping to force a trade. The admission did not endear him to Sox fans.

vs. Milwaukee Brewers
at White Sox Park

It was Jersey Day at White Sox Park, and 24,719 turned out on a beautiful, sunny Sunday to see the scheduled Sox-Brewers doubleheader and to collect a replica Sox jersey with the Aamco Transmissions label on the back. July 17,1975
vs. Detroit Tigers
at White Sox Park

The Sox kick off the second half of the season with a Thursday afternoon doubleheader against the Tigers. Wilbur Wood draws the starting assignment for game 1, meaning that this will be the second straight game that he starts, having started the last game before the All-Star break.

Wilbur takes the mound and once again shows flashes of the old Wilbur. He cuts through the Tiger lineup for two innings before Ron...

July 13,1975
vs. Milwaukee Brewers
at Milwaukee County Stadium

Wilbur Wood wasn't having the best year. He stumbled out of the gate at 0-4 before winning his first game of the season. At one point he was 3-10 with an ERA of 5.74. Sox fan feelings about Wilbur were possibly summed up in the person who wrote the Tribune to complain that Chuck Tanner's habit of starting Wood every two days was finally catching up to him.

Wood started to put it together and was...
