Mac gone, Egbert on his way

Posted 04-21-2009 at 05:26 PM by Lundind1

In a season that is assured to provide Sox fans with tons of twists and turns, the Sox make a definative move. With most fans saying, "bout time" or something along those lines, the Sox designated Mike MacDougal for assignment to Charlotte and called up Jack Egbert from the same.

MacDougal, whose ERA ballooned to a whopping 12.46 with 6 ER in 4-1/3 pitched, is going to be running out of options at the Major League level. It might be time for him to start thinking more long...

Theaters and Ballparks

I was talking with a friend recently who doesn't follow baseball but humors me when I wax poetic about the White Sox. In the course of that conversation I referred him to the YouTube videos posted by "brokertothestars" that give a walk-through tour of old Comiskey Park in the last weeks of its life. If you haven't seen them, you should. There have been a couple of threads about these that are fun to read.

What I told my friend is that being at the ballpark is what makes baseball...

Cycling for the cycle

Posted 04-21-2009 at 12:47 PM by Lundind1

It is interesting that in the first 2 weeks of the season we have seen the numbers coming in that we have, at least in terms of players hitting for the cycle. And by that I mean 3 is an interesting number so early in a season, or ever for that matter.

For those of you who don't know what a cycle is (I hope that you do) it is a single, double, triple, and home run in the same game. A natural is when you do it in just that order. There have been exactly 14 natural cycles in MLB to date,...

Greatest White Sox team of All Time

I am at work and bored silly. I don't do much, but that doesn't mean I will do this all day. I just want to post a few thoughts.

I was reading a book on Yankee myths, legends and such. The dude who wrote it compared the teams considered the 3 greatest in team history-1927, 1961 and 1998 to determine which one was the best of the bunch. He used a bunch of statistics that I don't recall right now, but his conclusion was that it was a toss up. All three dominated in one category or other...

MLB Network

Posted 04-20-2009 at 01:57 PM by tebman (Try To Hit 'Em Where They Ain't)

I've enjoyed watching the MLB network since it went live this year. Its combination of actual insight, current news, and nostalgia works well. My worry is that they have 24 hours to fill. That's a real worry.

I remember clearly when ESPN first went live. It was only on part of the day and had some amateurish sports recap show and a lot of low-rent sporting events like Australian-rules football, polo, and badminton. But it got better, smoother, and gradually attracted higher-profile...
