1964 White Sox vs. 1969 Cubs "World Series" Game 1

There are only so many "game summaries" I can post in "newspaper" form and only so many times I can poke fun of Sox fan-Cub fan stereotypes before the jokes get old. So for this one I'll just post some game stats and a few "tidbits."

July 4, 1950-Pitcher Danny Wilson becomes the second black player and first black pitcher in New Orleans Knight history when he debuts in the first game of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies before a packed house of 54,955 at Brennan Park, one of the largest crowds in the stadium's history.

Wilson's contract had been purchased by Jeremiah Brennan from the Birmingham Black Barons for $50,000. He had been playing in th minors, with the plan to call him up in 1951. An injury...

October 5, 1964 The White Sox hook up with the Yankees in a one-game playoff at Comiskey Park to decide the AL pennant after both teams finish the season in a 99-63 tie. Al Lopez taps lefty Juan Pizarro to start the game, Yankee manager Yogi Berra rolls the dice and goes with Whitey Ford on two days' rest in an effort to neutralize a White Sox hitting "attack" that couldn't hit left handers....
