Games and Moments
September 2 & 3, 1968
vs. Washington Senators
at. D.C. Stadium

At first glance, these two games with the Senators, both of which the Sox lost. seem like garden variety 1968 games. In the first one, they were blown out 11-3. In the second, Cisco Carlos did not get any run support in a 2-1 loss.

What made these losses big was that they were the team's 81st and 82nd losses of the season, thus ensuring that they would finish below .500...

Tommy Davis

Tommy Davis was one of the star outfielders of the National league in the 1960s. He broke in with one AB for the 1959 Dodgers, then stuck with them the next year, becoming one of the main cogs in their contending teams.

In 1962, Davis led the NL with 153 RBI and won the batting title with an average of .346. The next year he won the NL batting title again with an average of .326. In 1965 he suffered a badly broken ankle sliding in to a base....

Games and Moments
August 22, 1968
vs. Detroit Tigers
at Briggs Stadium

Tommy John was a bright spot for the White Sox during the dark turmoil of the 1968 season. The left hander, in his fourth season with the team, was having his best year by far. He jumped out of the gate by winning 7 straight without a loss, (including snapping the team's season-opening 10 game losing streak) and kept his ERA down below 2.0 for much of the season.

His 7-0 record and...

Games and Moments
July 24, 1968
vs. Oakland A's
at White Sox Park

Al Lopez quickly became the calm aftermath of the storm that was Eddie Stanky. Coaches were moved back to their own dressing room, the petty fines stopped and the clubhouse media ban was lifted with the words "you boys are always welcome."

Then, more luck took over. Just 11 days into his second tenure as Sox pilot, Lopez was felled with an attack of appendicitis. Off to the hospital...

Games and Moments
July 11,1968
vs. New York Yankees
at County Stadium, Milwaukee

Eddie Stanky continued to be the center of the s***storm that was the White Sox' 1968 season.

The skipper had rumored clashes with veterans Tommie Davis and Luis Aparicio; along with General Manager Ed Short. The GM objected to Stanky barring reporters from the clubhouse, with the two getting into an argument over it.

Stanky also barred his players from speaking...
