APBA presents..."The Super Sox"

I have decided, after a long layoff, to try and get back into APBA baseball. I have three seasons worth of teams laying arond gathering dust-1964, 1969 and 1936. I bought 1936 first, intending to "recreate" that entire White Sox season, but eventually lost interest. I bought 1964 and 1969 to match up the 1964 Sox and the 1969 Cubs in a mythical "World Series" between two of Chicago's famous also-rans (I would have preferred the 1967 Sox, but that season wasn't available). So...

Shark Quarterbacks-a brief history

So, in my imaginary world of the Honolulu Sharks, I have created several characters. I have to admit I have a few favorites of them and I write more about them than the others. Or rather, I would, if I did write about them. I don't know why I don't. Laziness and lack of motivation, I guess. I can't come up with something that will sell. I should write I guess for the hell of it. But there is no fun in doing it just for yourself. You'd like to share it with as many people as possible. That is the...

Alternate Super Bowls II

A few weeks ago I posted an entry entitled "Alternate Super Bowls" which matched up the losers of the NFC and AFC Championship games from 1966 to the present. I present Part II-in which I give the match ups between NFL champions and champs from other leagues that existed at various points in football history. Let us just assume that the NFL played nice with these leagues, cut them into a piece of the money pie, and allowed them to share the wealth. Yes, of course. George Halas sez: "&^%$#@!...

headlines from PI

I thought my Trib headlines about Barack Obama were gone after Politically Incorrect got revamped. They aren't, so here we go:

This first one was written the night Obama was elected. I felt that the joke was a bit stale, but I wrote it anyway.

Damn! I was thinking along the same lines. I don't know if the joke works because the Trib endorsed Obama, but in Dan McGrath's sports section today we might see something like this:

White Sox fan elected President...

Yesterday's Tribune headlines

These headlines were inspired by the book "Our Dumb Century" by the writers of the Onion. They took historic headlines and put a comic twist on them. I started to think "what kind of headlines would we have seen if the Tribune owned the Cubs in 1901? I went to work. Funny, though-I could not come up with a good headline for 1906 (Sox beat Cubs in World Series) or 1919-20 (Black Sox Scandal). Those two events alone are ripe for comedy.

Anyway, I came up with these, along...
