Posted 11-02-2010 at 08:19 PM by TommyJohn (No!!Mary!!!)

Headline from a 1946 edition of the "Onion" in the book "Our Dumb Century:"

Nazis, Japs victorious in alternate Phillip Dick Universe

Pretty funny stuff, and now that baseball is over, I will be pretty bored and looking for things to do. One thing I got around to thinking about was MLB's League Championship Series. Some of those series have sometimes been far more compelling and memorable than the World Series itself. I vividly remember moments like...

The Last Tycoon-This is the final film directed by the legendary Elia Kazan, and it features a screenplay by Harold Pinter. Robert DeNiro stars as a 1930's movie executive named Monroe Stahr, based on Irving Thalberg. Stahr is a young, arrogant hotshot who is making a name for himself as Chief of Production, a job given to him the studio head, who is basically trying to bring Stahr and his daughter together. I see status updates from all those wild, partying 20-somethings who are well, wild and partying. I am 41, but I never did any wild partying in my youth. Why? I was shunned, for the most part. I was excluded from all the groups in the...

"Hello, Brandon!"

"Oh, hello Mr. Silverman. How are you today?"

"Done what, Mr. Silverman?"

"Whattaya mean, done what? Don't play dumb, you were in all the pitch meetings! I have found the answer to that god damn Love Boat, that is what I have done!"

"Oh, yeah, Mr. Silverman. Well, about that...
