In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

I ordered 1936 and got it in the mail a couple of weeks ago. I printed up the White Sox games from that year. My head was swimming with the possibilities. First off, I would play the games in exact order of the retrosheet list. However, I would introduce interleague play-just to break up the monotony-and also to utilize every team in the set. I will play every team in the NL at least three times except for the Cubs. Why? Because the 1930's was the era of the "City Series" between the White Sox and Cubs. The White Sox thoroughly dominated these meetings, beating the Cubs in 1931, 33, 36, 37 and 39. There was no series in 1934 because the Cubs were stinging over a stunning sweep in 1933 and refused to challenge the Sox. There was also no series in 1932, 1935 and 1938. In those years, the Cubs won the NL pennant and went to the World Series, where they proceeded to submit to the thrice-a-decade royal ass-whipping at the hands of the American League-they were swept by the Yankees in 1932, bowed 4-2 to Detroit in 1935, and were swept again by the Yanks in 1938. All told the Cubs played a postseason series every year of the 30s except for 1934 and lost all but one (1930).

My point is simply I will hold onto tradition and have the White Sox not play the Cubs in the regular season, but rather in the City Series. In the real one, the White Sox thrashed the Cubs 4 games to 0. Every Sox regular played every inning of every game and all four Sox pitchers hurled a complete game. All told, the Sox needed only 12 players to dispatch the Cubs and send them on their way to another cold, cruel winter pondering the question-what was it about the American League that they were constantly handing the Cubs' asses to them? SO.....It will be interesting to see how the series plays out according to APBA.
