In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

September was a lively month for Sox fans and the Trib. The team won their first seven games, then stumbled a bit while a super hot Cleveland Indians team that had been 15 games back on August 1st suddenly couldn't lose and started gaining ground. At one point, they closed the gap to 1.5 games during a gut-wrenching September series between them. The first two games were two of the most exciting games ever played on the south side, and if the teams involved had been the Red Sox and Yankees, we'd see a dozen books about it already.

The Chicago media couldn't have been happier. They literally seemed to root for a Sox collapse. Paul Ladewski of the Southtown wrote about how the press box was glum and silent after Joe Crede hit one of the most dramatic home runs in team history. Granted, the decree is "no cheering in the pressbox" but Ladewski contrasted the glum silence with the "giddy bunch" that hung a "Ya gotta believe!" sign from the Wrigley pressbox in September of 2003. The headlines posted in the thread by myself and others in September of 2005 mocked the percieved "Go, Indians!" attitude of the media.
