In honor of actor Andy Garcia and his (unintentionally) hilarious reaction to Sofia (Mary Corleone) Coppola's death scene in "The Godfather, Part III."

Excerpt from Yog: The Wit and Wisdom of Baseball's Master Zen Philosopher by Maury Honig (Doubleday Books New York, 1985)

Another example of Yog's inscrutible wisdom came in October, 1964. The Yankees had tied the White Sox for the pennant and made their way to Chicago for the one-game playoff.

Berra sought out Whitey Ford, who had gone out partying on Rush Street the night before with Mickey Mantle. He found Ford holding his head between his knees, moaning piteously.

"How's the arm?" asked Yog.

"My arm's fine, it's my head that's killing me. I've got a five alarm hangover." said Ford.

"As long as your arm's fine, that's the only thing that concerns me. You're starting today." Yog replied.

Ford nearly swallowed his tongue. "Me?" He gasped. "I've only had two days rest!"

"Don't matter" said Yog. "You're the best lefty we have, and the Sox can't hit lefties."

"The Sox can't hit anybody, Skip!" Ford protested. "My 80 year old grandmother can pitch a two-hit shutout against them!"

"I'd rather not take that chance. You're my man."

"What am I supposed to do about my hangover?" Ford asked.

"Take two aspirin and come in earlier than 5 AM."

"Anybody we start will beat the Sox, Yog. This pennant is won!" Ford replied.

"Don't ever say that" Yog replied. "Remember what I always say: The pennant ain't won until the pennant is won."
