I don't know anything about him, but it sounds more like Hummel is out of a job if this guy is really worth anything and not just on a hot streak

Backman sees future for Miles:

Wally Backman saw it before anyone else. Now, Aaron Miles is making his manager's first impression withstand the scrutiny.

"He's a prospect to me," said Backman of the Birmingham Barons' second baseman. "I'm not sure the organization saw him that way, but from the signs I've seen he's definitely a prospect.

"He can swing the bat from both sides of the plate. Health is the key. If he stays healthy, he'll have the numbers (to advance)."

Backman labeled Miles the Barons' top every-day prospect in spring training despite a so-so 2001 debut in Birmingham. In limited playing time last year, Miles hit a pedestrian .259.

He particularly struggled at the Hoover Met, where he hit just .217. But Miles quietly put together a solid second half of the season, one in which he slammed all eight of his homers.

Now, he's forging a season to remember. Miles is third in hitting in the Southern League after a torrid 10-game stretch in which he hit .442 (19-for-43) with 13 RBIs.

who's miles?? did we just draft him a year or 2 ago?? what position does he play??

speaking of prospects--i was wondering the other day--how are we doing in terms of pitching prospects still in the minors? it seems that all the house hold names that were flying around a year or two ago are either up, washed up, or traded. anyone have an update?

Sucks getting old doesn't it? I know we are still "young" in the big picture but it just seems like the past 20+ years have just flew by. I remember watching TV and seeing how much older than me everyone seemed to be. Now you see guys going out there at 18, 19, 20... I remember when Britney Spears first came out and she was only 16. I was like "damn, I must be getting older, or everyone else must be getting younger." Heck, all these little rapper kids are coming out who weren't even born until after I graduated! Plus, they are all making a heck of a lot more money than I am... :(:

Two notes:

1. He's 25 - that's a little old for a AA player.

2. Don't know if it's your mistake or theirs, but the CA town is Pittsburg - no H. (Sorry, had to - went to JuCo there :D: )

I mentioned him in one of the recent farm reports. He's not much of a prospect, too old. Hasn't really hit before. No threat to Hummel or Harris.
