With Matt Cain's luck and that team, I wouldn't have been surprised if he no-hit the Cards and lost.

Hell, the coolest thing is how Ankiel did it, according to Yahoo.

Ignoring for a moment the ridiculous notion that posting at WSI can affect things happening on a baseball field in San Francisco, you don't have to worry about jinxing a no-hitter by posting "no-hitter." The AP issues advisories to member newspapers every time a starter finishes the sixth with a no-hitter in tact. The AP updates it after each inning and also issues an advisory when the no-hitter is broken up. Some pitchers manage to pitch no-hitters in spite of this behavior. Whether you adhere to a superstition or not is irrelevant because people are talking about it all over the country.

Had Cain pitched a no-hitter -- and he didn't come close, it looks like the Giants blew a 5-0 lead to boot -- hitting a home run in the game would have been impressive. But Rick Wise hit two home runs when he pitched a no-hitter.
