Even though Jenks hates 1-2-3 innings, both him and Linebrink have done a hell of a job pitching 3 days in a row.

We get Buehrle and AJ going for us tomorrow.......let's sweep the *****cats.

Thome breaks up the no-hitter, Dye caps it off with a homer. Only 3 hits, but they were big.

Floyd looked good for the most part, but he gave up too many 2 out hits. Linebrink looked great and Jenks got some help from Crede to end the game.

Great win, let's go for the sweep tomorrow.

The young guys are stepping into the rotation pretty well. Floyd mixed up his pitches well today. Thome finally canceled the post-game show after Willis walked 7. A very solid outing from Floyd and a Sox rally leads to a 3 game winning streak.

I've been looking forward to Floyd's first start, and he didn't disappoint. He looked like the veteran out there, not Willis. I don't know how Willis stayed in the game so long, much less kept a no hitter with all those walks.

Coolest play, though, was Quentin doubling Renteria off first base on a fly ball to medium-deep LF. That was a major eye-opener. The kid is hitting, too.

Let's see:

Floyd couldn't throw his curveball for strikes and still throws a quality start.

Swisher walks 3 times and plays a great CF.

Carlos Quentin has some great, patient ABs and gets the game tying RBI.

Logan looked filthy and made some hitter look real bad.

What a play by Crede to end the game, we might be still watching the game if it wasn't for him.

Floyd pitched pretty well for the most part, he got hurt by Jacque Jones and Brandon Inge...yea I know, how pitiful. The Tigers as a whole just look bad right now, Willis pitched well for a couple of innings, but boy did he just give up walk after walk as he went deeper into that pitch count. Big part on Swisher for starting off that 6th inning with a walk.

We only got 3 hits, but all of them counted for runs, so that's great to see. Let's go for the sweep tomorrow on Sunday night and show off the true potential of this team.

I wasn't entirely confident about Jenks coming in today because he has been in the last two days and worked a long scoreless ninth yesterday. But he got the job done. I don't believe he will be available for Sunday, and Dotel could end up getting the call in a tight game. Regardless, this afternoon celebration is in order.

The Sox have played only one bad game this year. Opening day was quite winnable, even without blaming the umpires for the loss, and it's too bad the Sox didn't take it. Still, these last two games were winnable for the Tigers, in Detroit.

So far, I am impressed with the 2008 White Sox.

Swisher is getting on base like a mad man in the lead-off spot and looking decent in CF. How many walks does Nick have now? Oh, he will. Nick struggled at the end of spring training, and I don't think he feels real good about his swing right now.

But he's still finding ways to help the ballclub. Taking walks and playing some nice 'D' in the outfield.

He has done well out in center, he's made a couple of nice plays out there and hasn't cost the team anything. I also noticed he struggled in the end of spring, he was hitting in the upper .300s when I was watching the first Sox Cubs game on WGN, I checked the ST stats before the season started and saw that he was batting .210, I was kinda surprised at that fall off. He also had some really bad swings against the Indians staff.

That my friend, I can agree with. Owens might have the speed, but Swisher right now is doing what a lead-off hitter needs to do. Work the count, get on base. Even without hitting, he's doing that.

I'm impressed with Swish's defense so far. Honestly, I can see Owens either sent down or becoming a bench player, with the OF being Quentin/Swisher/Dye; IF being Crede, Cabrerra, Uribe, Konerko; the bench being Ramirez/Owens, Anderson, Ozuna, Hall. I personally would like Alexei to head to AAA for a bit and work on his swing.

We still need to win tomorrow, if we do win however, the Tigers will go to Fenway with Rogers, Bonderman, and Robertson. If you ask me, they might get pounded out there in Bean-town, those three got pounded by the Royals lineup and by ours. So it's a good possibility they can start 0-9, 0-12 however, is kind of far stretched. They have way too much talent to be 0-12 and Leyland will never let that happen.

Being Ozzie, he will start Owens in center and lead him off when he comes back by the middle of this month. We'll see what happens, I have no problems with Swisher leading off (he can't do it for the whole season can he?), but having Owens start isn't going to kill this team.

That my friend, I can agree with. Owens might have the speed, but Swisher right now is doing what a lead-off hitter needs to do. Work the count, get on base. Even without hitting, he's doing that.

I'm impressed with Swish's defense so far. In a couple weeks I think the bench will be Ozuna, DaVanon, Owens, and Hall.

Ramirez and Anderson need to play, and the certainly won't be playing on this team.

Yes. Veteran outfielder. Good speed. Switch hitter.

Today's game wasn't really a nationally televised game. California, a probably a big chunk of the rest of the country, was treated to the Dodgers.

Fox also switched to the Mets-Braves game as soon as the Sox game ended.

Let's get the sweep tomorrow!

The real MB will appear. White Sox hitters are looking good. Another important note, there are a few guys who haven't started to hit yet, but they will, and when they do . . .

Go White Sox! I love this team already. I know it's early, but this is going to be a fun season.

Buehrle pitched well in spring, opening day was just one of those days, Mark has a couple of those every year, where nothing goes right with him and behind him. Hope tomorrow isn't one of those days, I haven't seen him do that in back to back starts since that murderous second half of 2006.

Owens is going to have to go Charlotte to get some ABs, and if he struggles there, he may not be called up so fast. I don't know how much, if anything, he brings defensively, so his whole worth is on the offensive side. Based on last year, he is marginal at that position. Maybe he will improve in his second year, but I'm not sure what argument you can make for him to play CF and send someone to Charlotte (unless it's MacDougal and not a position player).

But we got him not only for his OBP, but his 30 home run power...I'd like to see him break out some of that power sooner or later.

Whatever. He has been making quality at bats ever since he got here, and thats all we can ask him to do, be him in the leadoff spot, no. 2, no.5, etc. People say Floyd or JD was the pick to click today, but Swisher is the reason in a big way that Dontrell was out of there so fast. Sure he was 0-1, but 3 bb against the D-train with 20 total pitches between the three AB (8, 5, and 7 pitch AB).

Not really...he was saved by Crede today and by Dye the day before. The Sox pitchers gave up a lot of two out hits, in fact all the Tiger runs were with 2 outs today. The big blows were all done by no other than Brandon Inge...but if it wasn't for the big bad piece of crap Jacque Jones, none of that would of happened. Floyd needs to understand that Jacque Jones is not a good hitter and challenge him with stuff away away and away, because all he will do with it is chase chase and chase some more.

Some much better for Monday....I was dreading the possibility of going to opening day with the Sox 2-4 or so but now with the Sox to go 4-2 that would have the place rocking tomorrow....to have a 4-2 record to start off against the top teams in the division would be a hell of a start

Very happy that Floyd gave us a chance to win, very nice end result by a 5th starter. This team is better than I expected, if they can stay healthy *knock on wood*, they can make some noise.

Rough day for the resident WSI geinus GM's.I'm itching to call for Phil Rogers and other Kenny haters to apologize once and for all for criticizing his trading away Garcia and McCarthy. Maybe I ought to wait for Danks and Floyd to win a couple more games, though. :dunno: But the mere fact that they're in uniform is partial vindication, not that anyone could have been sure McCarthy and Garcia would end up hurt. OK, maybe Freddy's injury was a safe bet . . .

After one go-round with the rotation, we're sitting above .500. Yipee.
Wouldn't it be awesome to go into USCF on Monday off of a sweep of Detroit? We can only hope.

Kudos to Jenks today. Most closers in baseball would dread the prospect of three saves in a row on consecutive days. He pulled through, with the help of some good defense.

If this team gets that fighting and clawing mentality going early, they could be dangerous. There's plenty of offense, and the pitching can easily take a positive snowball effect. Let's finish this thing tomorrow.

I have the same feelings on my negativity I have/had towards players on this roster. If they win?

I'm glad I was wrong.

BTW: Nice to see people on this board finally coming around on Carlos Quentin.

Actually, it is nice to see some people coming around on the White Sox as a whole. Now this will change quickly when we lose 3 in a row, but that's what has become of our fanbase.

This team has lots of talent. We have depth in most spots. And we have some chips that will have value as the season progresses. It will still take a lot of things breaking right for us to win it all - but the same is true of most teams. The bottom line is that this team can contend, as is and if things break right, this could be an awful fun season. The same was true last year - but things broke wrong in so many ways, and the season was just plain awful.

If the Sox a)starting pitching is, say, top 5 or 6 in the league and b) play the best players that they have, then we'll have a shot. If Detroit isn't good (and they may not be), that will give us a better shot.

I would love it if this team made some noise. I'm the sort of guy that's always "cautiously optimistic" going into the season, and I was a little more optimisitic than I usually am. I like a lot what I've seen from the starting rotation, but who knows if Floyd and Danks were what they really are or if they were just on their good side like Buehrle was on his bad side. I like what I see though.

If you have Comcast, apparently they have been putting the games up OnDemand. I don't know what assist you are talking about because I didn't watch most of the game, but I am going to go back and look for it (a .specific inning would help).

I don't know what assist you are talking about because I didn't watch most of the game, but I am going to go back and look for it (a .specific inning would help). It was in the fourth inning and is a must-see. Renteria took off on the pitch, which Rodriguez hit to medium-deep LF. Quentin caught it probably 25 feet in front of the track. He was slightly flat-footed -- didn't come running at it or anything, which probably helped fool Renteria into thinking he'd just toss it to 2B. Renteria ran back to first, not balls out but not jogging, either.

Quentin threw a rocket that traveled on a line, with virtually no arc, all the way to Konerko. No bounce. Paulie caught the ball head-high, so it still had juice as it got to him. :worship:One of the best throws I've seen a Sox OF make in a long time. Renteria was out by a step, and it cost them a run because of Inge's homer later that inning.

Carlos's reaction afterward was extremely understated -- he just nodded slightly to Swisher and then someone in the infield. If it had been me, I'd have been shooting my six-guns out there like Swisher in that goofy commercial.
