The Jays have quietly been spending a lot of money the last few years. Locking up Vernon Wells, signing Frank Thomas and AJ Burnett, and now locking up Rios and Hill. I guess they pretty much have to do this to have any hope of competing with the big AL East spenders like Boston and NY.

Don't forget BJ Ryan. Trading away Glaus could've freed up some money, too.

Didn't they trade for Scott Rolen too? That's a lot of money.

Yeah, but I think Rolen's contract is one year and a few million shorter than Glaus'.
