View Full Version : Is Manny Acta the greatest manager ever?

Last year was unbelievable. The Nationals were actually a decent team yet had the worst major league roster that I have ever seen - especially the pitching staff.

Once again, Tim Redding and Jon Rauch are key members of the Nationals staff. Could Manny Acta make any pitcher great ? Does he perform magic?

What is it with this guy? If the Nationals compete for the division title this year, the guy deserves the greatest manager ever award.

I think you need a winning record before you're the best ever.

Acta's not the greatest.

Ozzie Guillen is - look what he did with that crappy 2005 White Sox team!

The only thing worse than overreaction to spring training is overreaction to the first week of the season.

Well, I do think we're doomed, but it has little to do solely with the first two games.

The first two games are merely serving as examples of the myriad ways we expected to be doomed this year.

Fair enough, but you guys are actually rational...something few folks here are.

Last season Pirates started 2-0 how did they finish?

As a person who lives in suburban DC, I have seen several Nats games. He does a very good job with crap.

Is he the greatest ever? Hardly. But a realistic goal for them is .500 ball. They still have no pitching.

Haha, this reminds me of when I'm playing MLB 2k8 on Franchise mode, when, before the season, they have such ridiculous things on the headlines like: "Is Jake Peavy among the best pitchers ever?"

Rutheford B. Hayes (It's all about the B.)

I bet you're now wondering what it stands for...

I'm willing to say no. He is not the greatest manager ever. He's a good manager, maybe a great one, but it's going to take more than one mediocre season and a few good games before I'll call him "The Greatest Ever."

Millard Fillmore - Best President Ever?

Is that a Colbert reference? If not, it could be.

"Millard Fillmore: Great president? (Pause) Or, The Greatest President?

Unreal.

Any thread that includes a simple "Unreal" from chisoxmike has the potential to be legendary.

I'm excited about this one.

The Nationals probably pay close attention to the media and therefore believed the Tigers were already representing the A.L. in the World Series. They've spent the last week and a half or so trying to copy the Tigers.

Thank you! I was just talking about this thread last night. Worst thread ever.

Scene: A dark bar in downtown Chicago. Pulsing multicolored lights, many beautiful people drinking expensive cocktails and dancing to upbeat club music.

A 30-something lawyer with a White Sox cap turned backwards and subtle facial hair is leaning in closely to a woman in her late twenties. She leans toward him, smiles.

Lawyer: I've had a wonderful evening, Shiela. It's great to meet you.

Sheila: I've had a great evening to.

Lawyer: Man this place is noisy. I'm gonna get out of here.

Sheila: That sounds like a great idea. Your place or mine?

Lawyer: Oh. Well....um...see here's the thing. Somebody started a thread on a White Sox message board about how great a manager Manny Acta is. Now that the Nationals are 5-15 I was kind of hoping to hoist him by his own petard.

Sheila: ....

(Exeunt)

I'd never be in a club with beautiful people, and I'd never wear a hat backwards, but I agree with the rest of it!
