We are going to Tampa for the Sox series. Anyone else going? Any good places on the beach to stay?

I'll be there...driving up from South Florida for the games. Do not stay anywhere close to the stadium...there's nothing going on out there. If you want a little quieter beach area, St. Pete beach is OK. I havn't booked any hotels yet because I may stay with a buddy in Orlando.

If there is others from WSI going maybe we can get a group of people....

Just make sure on your trip you go to ted peters famous smoked fish. Its about 10 minutes from the ballpark, and could be one of the best finds in Florida. Thats if you're into smoked fish, and their cheeseburgers are really good too. I was just there 2 weeks ago. O man, 1 lb of smoked mullet. mmm......

Ybor city is cool if you're into nightlife stuff as well. A poor mans version of New Orleans, with closed streets and lots of grinding. Thats near downtown Tampa, Which is where I prefer to stay.

One night is half a months rent.

You could always stay at Clearwater Beach. Reasonable rates, a pretty decent beach, and my favorite beach bar: Rockaway Grill. It's about a 40 minute drive to the ballpark, but the Trop is a dark evil place anyway.

I'm going to try to get out there this year, but the dates are always a pain.

You asked for a good place on the beach and this is the best by far.

If anyone is going to warm weather states in the next month or so to watch baseball, I offer my photographic services for a very cheap price. My fee is a Mai Tai or two or a couple beers and I will sleep in the rental car. THIS WINTER HAS BEEN TOO DARN LONG!

:D:

We stayed here once and it was very nice:

We always stay in downtown St Pete where you can walk everywhere including the St Petersburg Pier and even the Trop which is a little over a mile west on Central. St Petersburg is a great little town.

I'll be at the games on Saturday and Sunday for sure. I'm staying at my dad's condo on Clearwater Beach and will be chowing down on stone crab.

Ever hear of Treasure Island?

Check it out. North of St. Pete Beach, and a few miles south of Clearwater.

The rates here may be pretty reasonable. Some places that are on the Gulf are clean, well-kept properties that have simple accommodations. At least for the present time, there are not too many mega resort facilities.

Decent restuarants and great location - I would say 25 minutes or so away from the Trop.

The team stays at the Vinoy... on the edge of downtown St. Pete... there are some hotels in downtown St. Pete... the Hampton Inn and Suites on Beach Dr. is right near Baywalk and walking distance to the Pier...

Hotels on the beach... Tradewinds Resort on St. Pete Beach... Hilton and Shepherds on Clearwater Beach... and Safety Harbor Resort and Spa in Safety Harbor...

Also... just of 275 about 15 minutes from the Trop... Homewoood Suites by Hilton (my home for my first 3 months in Florida) and the Hilton St. Pete/Carillon... there is also a Radisson there...

Ferg's is the usual stop after a game... its just north of the Trop... and there is a good chance you will see me there after the games...:gulp::gulp::gulp:

And for what its worth... the Trop is in ST. PETERSBURG... and I am not a big fan of Ybor City... if you stay in Tampa... Channelside and International Plaza are better and safer for nightlife!

What hotels are you looking at?

Radisson
7700 Courtney Campbell Causewy
Tampa, FL
$111 per night.

Memorial Day weekend? You won't get much better for this level hotel.

PM me if you want more alternatives - my wife has forgotten more about FL vacations them most people know.

When I went down there last June for the Sox series, I stayed at The Grand Plaza Beachfront Resort & Conference Center (http://www.grandplazaflorida.com/index.html?OVRAW=grand%20plaza%20beachfront&OVKEY=grand%20plaza%20conference&OVMTC=advanced&OVADID=16693052022&OVKWID=102920633022) in St. Pete Beach. It was very affordable, clean, right on the beach, and not more than a ten minute drive from The Trop. It's an old Holiday Inn, located on Gulf Blvd. about a mile from the Don Cesar (which someone referenced earlier) and that whole Blvd. is basically a tourist trap, so it's not like you'd be out in the middle of nowhere. The hotel also offers free high-speed internet and free on-site parking.

And what's cool about the Grand Plaza is that there's a refrigerator and microwave in your room, so if you wanted to go to the Publix down the street and stock up on snacks, drinks, etc., it's totally doable. There are also plenty of restaurants up & down Gulf Blvd.

Your powers of observation are stunning.

Look at the map. It's right off the causeway. 30 minutes tops to the trop.

I just stayed at the Radisson in Pinellas Park last weekend. Really nice hotel, but it's not really surrounded by anything. About 10min from the Juice Box

If anyone wants to tailgate before the game in Tampa, me and a buddy will be out there in the parking lot with our Sox gear on Friday. I can check WSI from my mobile phone so PM me if anyone wants to hook up before or during the game.

Thank you.

They have been talking about hotels/resorts on the beach from Clearwater to St. Pete. My observation was the fact this resort is at least a 30 minute drive to the beach.
