115,300 tickets sold and the Dodgers may release 10,000 more standing room seats :o:

Thats nuts. I remember in HS playing at ARGO in Summit and their left field was about 200 feet or Harlem Ave. We were all trying so hard to hit it out we kept making outs. Our coach was going nuts..

Will this be televised? Will it be on the Extra Innings package, or does that officially start on Opening Day?

At least the Red Sox didn't have to play the World Series in such a venue unlike another Sox franchise who did.

On NESN and local LA TV only :(:

Ken Macha and Jim Rice joined Tom Caron to preview the record crowds - and odd playing atmosphere - that will greet the Red Sox and Dodgers this weekend at the Los Angeles Coliseum. (http://multimedia.boston.com/pub/tn/1/featured_videos.htm?bctid=1474221204&p1=Well_Video_VideoLink)

We did the same thing, but we had better luck. I'm pretty sure we ended up winning about 20 something to 4. Several people ended up with multiple home runs. It's a shame we didn't play there more often.

I don't really care that the Red Sox are playing, but I'm interested in seeing the debacle of having jacked-up major league players with Little League dimensions in left field. I think it could be fun to watch as a novelty, but I could not care less who is involved.

I've hated the Red Sox since before it was cool, but come on! 201 feet to left!! Ridiculously large field in right!

Any baseball game like that should be broadcast nationally for sheer novelty value.

I agree. Some people take their Red Sox hating way too seriously. It could be the Cubs and the Yankees playing for all I care (my two most hated teams) and I'd still tune in for this. 200 feet to LF? How many HRs will there be by the 3rd inning? I'm surprised ESPN took a pass on this.

A question for the old timers who remember the '59 World Series, were these the same dimensions White Sox pitchers had to deal with in the World Series at the Coliseum?? I do remember reading that White Sox hitters struggled with the hitting background there because they let people sit directly in CF but I don't remember reading about 200 ft to LF. If so, wow...

Not an old timer, but I know how to use the internet ;-)

Short answer, no.

The baseball diamond was crammed into one end of the stadium, resulting in a left-field line measuring only 250 feet. A 40-foot screen was constructed to counter the intimate dimensions, but it didn't do that much good: the balls flew out of the park because of the intimate dimensions.

http://www.ballparkwatch.com/stadiums/past/la_coliseum.htm

It's shorter now because they've added more seats and made the playing field smaller since the 50s. They're making the screen 60 feet to compensate.

It's also worth pointing out that (at least in the 50s, but I think it's the same now) it's only 300 to the pole in right. It juts out very quickly after that, though. See the seating map at http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0B004039E7F461B4?artistid=805959&majorcatid=10004&minorcatid=10

The game is on MLB.TV, maybe they'll show it free? That's probably too much to hope for.

Exactly, it would just be too funny to watch. I couldnt care about the Penguins and Sabres, but the outdoor game this year was the best game I've watched this year, Hawks aside. This would be the same, just sure entertainment

Given the fact that it's the Red Cubs, I'm surprised these games won't be on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNNEWS, ESPN Classic, ESPNU and ESPN De Portes for good measure.

We also played at North Park College and their baseball field has a very small RF too but LF and CF were impossible.

Gates have been open since Noon. They are running a parking shuttle from Dodger Stadium. They have a carnival set up and there is a lot of beer drinking.

After the game should be fun getting us out of here. Manny is going to love playing deep shortstop.

Ok- this is apparently going to be shown on NESN. If someone in Chicago orders the Directv regional sports package, would the NESN feed for a pre-season baseball game be blacked out? I know that regular season games are blacked out due to MLB Extra Innings, but what about preseason?

Esteban Loaiza will be pitching for the Dodgers. Ethier will be in LF for the Dodgers, Bobby Kielty for the Red Sox.

Edit- Dodgers playing with no leftfielder. They moved Ethier over to short center.

Edit- Ethier playing CF, Andruw Jones moved to 2nd base. Dodgers are playing with five infielders.

This could get ugly. Wakefield is pitching for the Red Sox.

The centerfield camera is actually looking over the 2nd baseman's shoulder. For the last inning, the 2nd base umpire has been standing in the way.
