I've got a bunch of country songs that apply and are quite funny, but here are two -

(I ain't) As Good as I Once Was ~ Toby Keith

I ain't as good as I once was
My how the years have flown
But there was a time back in my prime
When I could really hold my ownYou're Not the Best ~ Charlie Robison (from the perspective of a Cubs fan)

Well you ain't so fine but you're all mine
And I'll love you till the end
So darling don't you worry cause they
Say that love is blind
Lust has eyes like an eagle
It's gonna drive me out of my mind
Though my eyes sometimes wander
It doesn't mean that I'm untrue
You're not the best but you're the best that I can do

I hate to say it, but I think the guy is going to have a great season as the closer. I thought that they should have done this after the first injury, and I think he's finally being put in the right role.

I also think it's a testament to Cubs front office ineptitude that they didn't think of this 2 or 3 years ago.

I think that the Cubs are nowhere near the Mets or Diamondbacks and will disappoint yet again, but I don't think it will be because of Wood. I think it will be because of guys like Lilly, Howry, Eyre, and Theriot that they are blatantly overvaluing.

I was reading what the others were suggesting on that blog and I think Brian Anderson should have "Put Me In Coach" by John Fogerty as his song at the plate.

Some of the suggestions at the link are pretty funny. Apparently, there are a lot of cub fans that like Pearl Jam.

I know it's probably a cliche but "Thunderstruck" by ACDC would be great. I can already hear the crowd screaming "THUNDER!"

How about:

Killswitch Engage - "Arms of Sorrow"

Nathania - "Fragile body"

Urge - "All Washed up"

"Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder, for the chorus:

"Ain't nothin' gonna to break my stride
Nobody's gonna slow me down, oh-no
I got to keep on movin'
Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride
I'm running and I won't touch ground
Oh-no, I got to keep on movin'"

On second thought, if he moves, he might break! :redneck

if he didn't already have a WS ring from 05 I would suggest Steve Perry - O Sherrie. Then the cub fans could just change the words to "O Kerry" and sing along when he comes out of the bullpen.

Why not just reuse "don't stop believin'"? How long have Cub's fan's believed in this guy now?

If I Can't - 50 Cent...

Ahh...crappy music fits with a crappy pitcher. Besides, this gives Kerry Wood confidence that if he can't do it, nobody on the Cubs can. The pressure is building up in that elbow of his already.
