With the season opening a week earlier for Boston the Boston Globe has put out their preview section. (once again showing what they are one of the best sports sections in the country )

BASEBALL 08 (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/baseball08/)

The focus on the issue is managers...with a long Francona piece but also stories on all the manager greats. They also rank the managers of MLB ( Ozzie is 14th )

AL Preview (http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Third_Party_Graphic/2008/03/23/1206257724_5656.gif)

NL Preview (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2008/03/23/nl_capsules)

Carfardo raised a few eyebrows by picking the Jays to win the AL East

He also thinks the White Sox 'could surprise'.

The rest of the Globe staff shows the White Sox no love (http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/graphics/03_24_08_picks)

If they ever stayed healthy, they definitely could contend deep into the season. They definitely have enough talent on their roster. I don't like the Gibbons/Ricciardi team either, as they're complete buffoons.

I do believe the Yankees are not going to have a good year.

I think the Rays are going to shock the world and perhaps steal the wild card.

Well considering that they have Fields starting in left, the Globe staff has certainly been doing thier homework regarding the White Sox

I do believe the neon lights in Tokyo have fried your brain good sir.

The Rays might finish close to .500 if they're lucky. The Yankees will win 90+ games. The sun will rise in the east. This is the time of year when we, as fans, try to talk ourselves into interesting possibilities that would make the coming season unique and different. Some of them are possible. These two are far less likely.

I did not think anyplace on earth could have more neon than Vegas....I was wrong.

There is an amusement park next to the hotel that is neon city.

If the Rays play well with the east teams they could win 85 or more.

The thought of a more neon-laden place than Vegas is scary.

You just hit the problem though. The Rays would have to really play above their heads just to hit 85. Does anyone really think the Yankees, with a lineup including A-Rod, Giambi, Abreu, Cano, Cabrera, Posada, Jeter, and a pitching staff of Mussina, Hughes, Pettite, Wang, Chamberlain, and Rivera is going to have trouble getting to 85 wins? If the Rays can get close to .500 and finish ahead of Baltimore they should call this year a win.

The big question is...if the Rays can play .500 ball can they draw any fans???

I still have my doubts.
