Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Nope. It will be the Big Show. He will eschew using a baseball, and instead throw Floyd Mayweather. It will be a strike.

If it's Barrack Obama, all White Sox fans should prepare themselves for EXTREME security measures and the possibility of being hindered from certain pregame festivities per the Secret Service.

Our 4th place banner ceremony.

Maybe he means the traditional festivities where fans are allowed on the field, bring weapons into the park, you know, those sort of things...

Woo! Some real knee-slapper's there guys! Don't say you haven't been warned.

But some of the security restrictions the Secret Service will implement will be vehicle searches, metal detector's at all entrances, everybody will be subject to a body/bag search after that, possible restrictions on tailgating outside the ballpark and the possibility of no porta-johns, there will be bomb sniffing dogs milling around with handler's constantly, sewer's will be taped off with "DO NOT REMOVE - U.S. SECRET SERVICE" tape, etc.

Obama is the front runner for the Democratic Party. As such, he will get as close to real Presidential security treatment that a non-President can get. This also may include needing to present a ticket to the event BLOCKS from the ballpark. No one that doesn't have any business being around the ballpark will be allowed access anywhere near it.

And before you think I'm over-reacting, let it be known that I have worked on Presidential Detail visits before and the security for one where there will be 40,000 people at an outdoor venue with elevated seating will be massive.

Doesn't the actual President of the United States throw out a pitch at a MLB practically EVERY year? I never heard about the horrors of security for those games at baltimore, texas, or wherever else.

Out of all the things you list, this is the only one that will really have any impact on the festivities. Walking through a metal detector? Who cares...

Deceased.

Maybe we can bring back Carol Mosley Braun. Having her throw out the first pitch opening day after she was elected Senator was one of the most wonderful ceremonies we ever had. I have never heard those kinds of boos for a ceremonial "first pitcher."

I would think it would be Obama. We have a Sox fan who is leading in the Democratic primary race to be the POTUS. It would be odd not to have him.

And he seemed to bring us luck when he threw out the first pitch last time...

I long for the days when the biggest celebrity the Sox could come up with to throw out the first pitch was the lead singer from the Oak Ridge Boys.

Brooks,

First and foremost thank you for doing a tremendous job since coming over from the Bulls, I believe the Sox marketing staff was in disseray under the Gallas regime, have you made great strides in marketing the Sox (eventhough I thought the SSCBOT spots were lame)

The real reason I am writing you is that I was wondering if anyone in the Sox front office has given any consideration to having Barack Obama throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Sox Home Opener. I believe this would be a tremendous PR move for the club.

It is a good idea but we do not invite political candidates currently in a the midst of a campaign.

Barack is a White Sox fan. He threw out a first pitch in either 05 or 06.

Thanks for the note.

Brooks

Not gonna be Barack. I am thinking of replying to Broooks with the link to this thread. I would love to see his reaction, I just might.

After they throw out the first pitch Bobby can get down on one knee and beg her to remarry him. Whitney's reply of course would be: That's a hell to the no!
