I've posted links to Mankato Free Press baseball writer Ed Thoma before, because I think he is one of the best baseball writers I've ever read.
Today, he says what many of us believe, but big-time sportswriters don't have the guts to say, in his article "Tony LaRussa, Steroid Enabler." (http://www.mankatofreepress.com/sportscolumnists/local_story_070015018.html)

Good. I lost my respect for LaRussa when he defended McGwire.

Good article, but didn't Ponson sign with the Rangers?

Whoever ran the O's in the late 1990s.

Good article, but didn't Ponson sign with the Rangers?Yes, but Thoma merely mentioned that the Cards gave him a tryout, with the implication being that they didn't care about his steroid use.

You know, I'm hesitant to say this because I know most of my fellow Sox fans loathe him because Kenny Williams was mocked in a book about sabermetrics and I don't want people to believe that I'm joining the anti-sabermetrics bandwagon because I'm not even though I do not adhere to their philosophies but I think Billy Beane would deserve that prize.
