Crede - increases his trade value. Before you jump down my throat, I love Joe, but with Boras as his agent, we're not resigning him.

Why not keep him and take the draft picks?

I'm pretty sure we wouldn't get draft picks for him.

Why wouldn't we? If he turns in an average year in 400 plus at bats he'll rank in the top ten 3rd basemen. That's enough for at least 1 pick as far as I know.

Trade him for a pitcher that can be on the big league roster this year as opposed to using a pick on a prospect who might be on the big league roster someday?

That seems to be an easy choice, IMHO.

Crede, the only real 3rd baseman on the team

There is a zero chance that Crede becomes a type A free agent. He would have to have a monster season along with all the other 3rd basemen in the league have downer seasons just to reach type "B" status, which only nets one pick.

That's a huge if considering he's only done it once before. The status also includes his performance from the year before.

Well Crede being healthy increases his trade value, but Pablo being healthy helps the team more for '08, so I'm going with him Pablo...and I love Crede and I wish we could keep him but as has been mentioned before, with Boras as his agent, it's just not going to happen.

Crede, I think he should dump Boras to show the Sox he's committed to playing with the team. (I know it's a pipe dream, but we can all dream can't we?)

I get sooooo tired of people blaming the agents for a player choosing to stay or go. The bottom line is Boras works for Crede. If Crede or any other player wanted to stay somewhere, they make the final decision. Actually in an article earlier this year IIRC , Crede actually said something to that affect.

I wasn't disagreeing with you by blaming the agent. I'm saying the same thing. Dump Boras & show who's the boss, Crede not Boras.

Other-Toby Hall.

Toby apparently isn't completely healthy. He's been held back a lot so far.

He would have to do very, very well to turn himself into a type B guy. He was barely type B with the aberration of 2006 on his record; now that that's off, I just don't see him getting us any picks.

If we were in a win now (and not pretend fantasy land win now mode) we would keep joe crede this year. All the arguments for dumping him are because of future considerations. guess what, the GM has already made that choice.

a) we cant sign him (supposedly because of his agent for 2009) ITS 2008!!! he's signed and can play

b) we wont get much for him (one draft pick, 2 draft picks) again, thats the future, we've already traded the top members of our farm system, why does it matter if we have another long shot draft pick?

c) Fields is ready now! Well, send him to AAA for a year. Does it really matter if we lose a year of his services? Save a year of major league service time. when it comes time for HIS payday (assuming he does well), we'll ship him out the same way. Sucks for Fields, matters 0% for the Sox.

d) he might get hurt. we'll any number of our aging veterans might get hurt, plus, we still got fields pissed off in AAA.

so you see its clear, unless crede is traded for someone who helps the 2008 team, all the rest of the reasons for trading crede MAKE NO SENSE.

But Toby is far more important to this franchise than Crede at this point and he says he'll be fine. I believe him.

Pablo is going to be here this season, Crede isnt. Easy choice for me.
