Buehrle will start his 6th Opening Day

As he should.

Forget that, Contreras should be the Opening Day starter.

I would have rather seen Buehrle start the home opener, but Vazquez is cool. Makes sense Floyd will face the Tigers since he did well there last year.

Now does this make Danks the #3 starter? Ozzie said (from an article the past week) that he doesnt want Danks and Floyd to pitch in the same series.

No big surprises here. I actually like this rotation layout better than with with Vazquez first.

I wouldn't want Contreras or Floyd pitching the same series.

Give give us at least five those days, boys!

Ozzie said he does not want Danks and Buehrle pitching back to back because they have similar styles.

I can't believe Ohka wasn't given more time to earn the nod.

Now we can officially say that Jon Garland's spot was taken by John Danks. I just had shivers go up my spine....

Why don't you wait for a couple of ST games before you totally crap yourself? Danks looked good the beginning of the year last year and has supposedly mastered a cutter coming into this year. He could, you know, end up being a pretty good pitcher.

He better get on it though, the bum, he's pushing 23.

Danks and Floyd are the new Buehrle and Garland. Give it time.

I think that this was a good decision by Ozzie, hopefully he does not have an Opening Day this year like Jose had last year.

Mark going on Opening Day is a good call in my book and I also like how he broke up Danks and Floyd at least for the first two series, now let's see how spring goes for them all in that rotation....

OK Lando.

Floyd is out of options so we can't dedicate 4 years to him hoping he is the new Jon Garland.

Can they dedicate more than the 10 starts they gave him last year before they decide?

Buehrle will start his 6th Opening Day

Should be his 7th in a row.

So, this means we'll have a symmetric season to 2005, as Buehrle will throw a shut-out, and they'll lead the charge throughout the entire season and post-season. I can live with that!

I can also live with seeing Vazquez pitch at the home opener!

Mark would have to actually put effort into being that bad. That was a horrid Opening Day.

And Javy to take the mound for our Home Opener. Sweet!

I like this.

I figure at least one of our young pitchers will come through. I have to say I could see it being Danks this year.

I can definitely live with Javy starting the home opener.

05 was a fun opener when MB started, but it will be great to be at the park for longer than 2 hours this year!

Assuming it's not snowing. Javy's cool tho, I love how all the Javy hate from '06 has gone away.

It's still way too early for this to be decided.

The knock against Javy, right or wrong, is that he becomes a headcase when the pressure is on. Good move not making him the "#1 starter" IMO.

Reifort's Blog:

"Impressive, impressive outing by Javier Vazquez today (5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 7 SO) in our 4-1 win over the Rockies.

After the game, manager Ozzie Guillen said he is leaning toward having Vazquez start Opening Day, likely followed in the rotation by Mark Buehrle, Gavin Floyd, Jose Contreras and John Danks.

"We expect that from him," Guillen said of Vazquez. "We need outings like this from him from the go get."

Remember the outcry when we signed Vazquez to that contract extension last March?

Guillen also said he liked the way Floyd threw in his last outing and was comfortable throwing him third."

Fine by me, considering Buehrle has never beaten Sabathia. Home opener with Burls is good.

That's the way it should be. This isn't 2005 anymore. Nothing against Buehrle, but Vazquez is our most effective starting pitcher right now. This is a good sign that Ozzie isn't messing around or deferring to veterans because of the past.

It's also great that Ozzie is recognizing the signs that Floyd looks like he can contribute in a major way this year. And, likewise, that Danks is the weakest link on our starting staff.

I have my fingers crossed that Williams will be able to bolster the major-league team when he trades Crede and, hopefully, Uribe, provided that Richar shows his back is OK. I think the trades will determine whether we have a real outside chance of making the playoffs or simply just becoming a decent team.
