Saw some spring training clips on the news tonight. Swisher looks like he put on more than a few lbs. this winter.

It kind of is an issue if out center fielder is overweight.

Just saw skotty and he looks like he is a little on the light side. He is gonna have to bulk up in order to make it through another grueling season of booze and tailgates:gulp:

Not according to Swish:

February 13, 2008:

"Physically, Iím feel just great! Iíve taken off my winter "coat" by working hard in the gym, eating mostly high protein foods like egg white omelets, grilled chicken and fish (sushi!) and basically eating healthier overall. Iíve also been hitting a lotÖtaking about 500 swings a day. Iím ready to ROCK!"

Yeah he looks huge standing next to Owens and Richar. I think he obviously has an athletic build and is not a typical CF'er. The White Sox don't do anything "typical" anyways, so this doesn't bother me.

Can someone at least come up with a picture of our allegedly fat CF before panic ensues?

You guys gotta understand that maybe just maybe he's what us bodybuilders call "Bulking up". Me I'm 5'9 and weigh 240 when bulked up but pare down to 207 for competition. I remember when I lived in So California, I would see all the pros at Golds Gym when they were bulking and before someone pointed them out to me, I thought they were just big fat football players. Didn't realize they were professional...maybe Swishers the same. Big in the winter and more cut in the summer

The other night CTL interrupted its wall-to-wall Cub Love to show some Sox jogging, with Jenks among them. I've been waiting for someone to post about it with the f*t allegation (and that * is not an "i"). It was like Baywatch, that's all I'm sayin'.

i think the issue is "where the hell is the offseason conditioning program swish?"
Spring training is all of a sudden a weight loss program?

the guy looks like a truck driver that you see at a bar who is completely shhhwasted and looking for a good fight.

i still can't wait to see him in the outfield and in the batter's box at the cell though. finally, someone else on the team with a personality besides buehrle, pierzynski, and ozzie (well it hasn't been that long because rowand had a personality).

That won't work...there's nothing about grinding in there.

Of course, if the bullpen is as bad as last season, I suppose it's possible that we, the fans, will indeed become the 2008 Sox. :D:

who cares how ****ing fat he is as long as he can hit the cover off the ball and field his position well.

Well, if he's TOO big, then his fielding will take a hit, as he'll lose range and athleticism. His hitting should be fine. As they say Down Under, no worries.

He also has talent too, but I guess that really doesn't matter to a baseball team.

why would i think that? we only traded 3 (or was it 4?) of our top prospects for him. he can't be that good if we got him so cheap....

I think that's half the problem with the entire Swisher discussion. I'm guessing a large number of fans here have never seen him play a game in CF in person. I'm guessing a large number couldn't tell us much about how he gets off on balls in CF, or his tendency in terms of what throwing position he gets to in CF. Oakland has always had a better defensive CF to put out there - so he saw limited time. I'm also fairly sure that most people here haven't seen enough of him to know what his body type is - in terms of how he looks when he comes to camp in general, and how he stays in shape.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he turns out for us. I'd rather have a Hunter/Sizemore/Wells type defensive CF. But we dont. So instead of bitching incessantly about it, I'm going to wait to see what we do have.

If our team's biggest problem is Swisher's CF defense, we are going to go a long way.
