Right on the head. This team lives and dies by their pitching.

I'd throw 5a as the entire bullpen, but I think that's been patched up for this year.

I like the pitching rotation idea.

I would take Buehrle off and put either the linebrink or the lead off spot.

1) Thome (no injuries)
2) Cabrera (.350+ OBP)
3) Buehrle (20 wins)
4) Vazquez (repeat of 2007)
5) Fields (maintain power, increase average)

Note that I didn't put any of the 'pen on the list because I have a feeling that we are deep enough that the guys will be able to pick each other up this year.

Can I pick more than five guys? If not, here goes:

1. Konerko
2. Dye
3. Swisher
4. Contreras
5. Thornton

Konerko and Dye killed them last year. All the talk about how bad the bullpen was is valid, but the Sox were the worst offense in the league. And that's playing half their games in the Cell.

In truth, for the Sox to contend they're going to need bounce back years from a lot of veterans, a surprise in the rotation, and a surprise in the everyday lineup. And no one we're counting on can take a step back. (Like Buerhle.)

Me too, I think the Sox can win even if Buehrle has an average (by his standard) season. When you average his career numbers over 162 games, he has a 14-10 record with 224.2 IP and an ERA of 3.80. Maybe throw a few more wins in there (but that's not really on the pitcher all the time).

You must not have seen Buehrle pitch much during the 2nd half of the '06 season then. He's on the list.

I have confidence in Danks..I think Gavin Floyd should be in that spot.

The entire team needs to play well to make the playoffs.

Well, everyone needs to be good.

I would just say the starters after Buehrle, plus Jenks. I can't imagine Buehrle having that bad of a season. and if he does, it won't be on the scale of a bad season for any of the other starters. Jenks, while he's been more than solid, could really screw things up if he had a bad season. He's been solid for a couple of seasons, but he's still young and with the power he uses, his arm could mess up.
