I'm trying to pick out a name to put on a road jersey....

I narrowed it down to........

Swisher
Thomas
Fisk
Ventura

Thoughts?

I guess it just comes down to who you like the most. However I will say that the Thomas, Fisk and Ventura names are timeless on a Sox uniform. Nobody knows how long Swisher will be around.

Get Swisher! He'll be here for a while. He's the kind of guy who would autograph it for you as well.

Get who you want. I am a firm believer that there is no bad jersey. This is coming from a guy who has a Billy Koch, Man Soo Lee, Carlos Lee and Ross Gload jerseys.

:rolling: ... or a John Kruk!!

BTW: My friends and I once saw a guy wearing a cubs Mark Prior jersey and he had the same three foot long neck and big dumbo ears that Proir has. We nearly **** ourselves laughing.

I'm a big fan of having no name on the back of the jersey. Also, never put your own name on the back of the jersey, that's lame. Another horrible offense is taking an old jersey and throwing the player's name on the back if names weren't on the uniforms when they were actually worn in the big leagues.

I got a Pods jersey a few years ago, and now that he is gone, I have to get a new jersey, and now I have told myself if I am going to spend that much on a jersey I am going to get a classic player so that if a current player gets traded or not signed again I don't have to get a new jersey. I have currently been looking for a Ventura jersey myself

If you don't have a Frank Thomas jersey already, that'd be my vote. To have a jersey of one of, if not the best, players to put on a Sox uniform, I wouldn't pass on that opportunity.

Robin Ventura. Or Noberto Martin.

Edit - I never see any Thigpen jerseys. Why not?

I am actually in the same boat. I have a nameless/numberless road jersey that I was just thinking of putting a name on. I decided to go with Thomas. I already have an AJ jersey (ordered at grandstand 2 days after his signing. I always liked him.), an Ordonez '03 All-Star jersey, and a Fisk retro.

Can't go wrong with any name. Show your support for your favorite player. God knows, someone out there owns a Navarro jersey.:D:

As do I, however I made my choice already. My old Pods jersey is a 3rd black one.

My next one will be a home jersey with "Pierzynski" on the back! :D:

He's my second favorite Sox player right now and he signed a 3 year extension. Also, it will cheeze off my North side neighbors.

I wouldn't get Swisher - let him prove himself first. (I'm thinking of those who got the "Navarro" jersey before Jaime pitched a game - you never know when a guy jumps the shark; I'm confident about Swisher, but I'd wait before "jerseying" him.)

I absolutely loved Fisk when he was here, and I think JR screwed him royally when he cut him loose, but Fisk's unabashed Red Sox-favoritism since he retired has left me much less appreciative of his time on the South Side.

Ventura is, in my mind, an all-time Sox great and a classic and classy ball player. You couldn't go wrong with Ventura on the jersey. But ...

Frank is the best player in White Sox history. You can make a compelling case that he is the best right handed hitter in the last 40 years of MLB. He is underrated, underappreciated and in my opinion, any chance a Sox fan has to raise the Thomas banner, he/she should do so. I vote "Frank".

I always get a laugh when I see some dope wearing a home Yankee jersey with a name on the back.

To the original question, I would go with Robin or Frank. Swisher may be here for a while, but I would personally rather go with a Sox legend.

If you're a big guy, Pudge. I just can't see a guy under six foot and 225 wearing a Fisk jersey. If you're not a big guy, Guillen or Ventura.

If Esteban Loaiza had won the Cy Young in 2003, my plan was to get a Sox jersey with "Cy Young" on the back, but Loaiza's #21.

I don't think we'll be seeing a Cy Young winner on the South Side anytime soon, but what do you guys think of that? My big fear is that a lot of people wouldn't get it, and I'd get all sorts of "Hey, Cy Young never played for the Sox!" or "Hey, Cy Young wasn't #21!" comments.

I mean, I've had people yell at me that "Hey, there's nobody named Perry on the Sox!" with my #43 jersey.

Looks like it's a Swisher/ Thomas battle..............

I'm 6' 2" 228 so Ventura would look a little odd........my only concern with Shish is is here he for the long haul???

Right now I am leaning towards Thomas

I don't see the point to having someone else's name on the back of my jersey unless my jersey used to belong to the person whose name is on the back. I have jerseys with my name on the back, but I play in those, and I certainly wouldn't insult a White Sox player by wearing his name.

A few years ago, I worked where someone who wore a red Atlanta jersey with the name Vick on the back. I thought his name was Vick and called him Vick. Later, I learned that Vick played for Atlanta's football team. I'm not sure if the man I knew as Vick wears it anymore.

He's Sox property through 2012, and we gave up our two best pitching prospects to get him...so I'd say yes.
