I don't know why but at first glance it reminds me of the Oakland Coliseum

Only 43,000 seats

If I missed this, I apologize, but what's the proximity of the new park from Shea?

I think what we need on this board is a Mets fan who can keep us up to date in great detail on the team and the city in which they play.

Nah. We already have one person obsessed with New York, much like his fellow Sawx fans!

Why would I care about the Mets. We play them once in awhile and we did play them in the World Series 22 years ago but nobody here remembers that series except for the best ballpark anthem I ever heard

Don't know about the Coliseum, CitiField looks like any other new multilevel stadium.

They should have an apple in the stadium, but a new one. That old one looks like a dented POS.

Agreed. I don't know what kind of scoreboard they will have, but they should put an even bigger one on the top of that.

That apple should be blown up with the rest of that piece of **** stadium.

You don't think anyone rememebers the 1986 World Series (http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN198610250.shtml)?

I'm glad that the Apple is coming across the Parking Lot. It's Shea's only saving grace. :D:

Thankfully Buckner was granted clemency for his past sins against Red Sox Nation after 2004. So the '86 series never happened.

It's probably a good thing there was no internet back then. The Sawx fans probably would've started an online petition asking to have the dirt around first base inspected and the inning replayed.

Truth be told it wasn't Buckner's fault they lost that game...

Dont tell Sawx fans that. Whenever they lose they demand a scapegoat.

Since, as a former Georgia resident, I am used to the Braves enormous scoreboard, the one in the picture above looks rather small to me.

I know that it is not a "real" picture but the ballpark in this photo looks VERY similar to Camden Yards in Baltimore. I actually have a picture from Camden Yards when we took the $5 stadium tour. When we got to go on the field, I took a picture of the field from pretty much this EXACT vantage point, and it looks REALLY similar. I will look for the picture and if I can find it, I will post it and you guys will see what I am talking about.

Also, the new trend of new stadiums actually being smaller than the one they are replacing seems to have no end in site! I can see both the Positive and Negative of this new trend. I just think it's weird that once a certain "style" catches on, EVERYONE goes along with it. It is amazing. No one has any creativity anymore.

Wow it was pretty faded when I was there last year:

Must be all the construction dust coming from next door.

Anyway, I've always liked the Mets. Easily my second or third favorite NL team behind Cincy and Milwaukee. And they had a GREAT and entertaining World Series.

2004 erased the pain

Seriously for 18 years it was impossible to go more than a week without that nightmare coming up. To have a 2 run lead, 2 outs and nobody on and then be one strike away from winning the World Series and seeing it implode is something I wouldn't wish on any fan of any team. I actually blamed the Cubs for it. When the Mets made the second out a fly ball to center you can see a Cubs pennant directly behind Dave Henderson painted on the wall. It was almost as if the Cubs were saying 'oh no...you can't win'

Funny story about that game. Spring Training in Winter Haven 1991. I was having a beer with the sportscaster from Channel 6 in Providence and the 86 Series came up. I mentioned that I had the tape of the entire game in the truck and he said let's ask the barmaid to play it. This was at the team hotel bar at the Holiday Inn. When the tape first started there were 6 people in the bar. Word spread like wildfire and by the 4th inning it was 4 deep and people were watching the game like it was live. It reminded us how Boston should have broken the game wide open but squandered it.

The 10th inning I saw grown men crying. If there was a goat it was Rich Gedman not Buckner.

BTW it should also be remembered that in 1990 Bill Buckner worked his butt off in spring training and made the roster. On Opening Day at Fenway he got the loudest ovation. We never blamed him but the media especially ESPN and Shaughnessy just wouldn't let it go.
