Wednesday morning at 10 AM Washington time Roger will go to Washington 'to speak ABOUT the past'

Based on what we have seen since the Mitchell Report was released this should be 'very interesting'

Meanwhile score one for McNamee as Roger's defamation suit against his former trainer was moved to FEDERAL court instead of Harris County at McNamee's lawyers request. That takes Rusty Hardin out of his element

Roger Clemens lies Wednesday at the Rayburn Building or Brian McNamee, his former trainer, lies. One of them could end up in jail because of it. You like reality television? It doesn't get any more real than this.

Somebody puts his hand on a Bible today and perjures himself on national television. For now, this is the closest we have come to a steroids trial in baseball.

I look forward to the day a few years down the road when the two most dominant players of the past 20 years, Barry Bonds & Roger Clemens, neither of whom will have retired by choice but more by lack of options, will share a first ballot for the Hall of Fame.

I hope the SOBs get shut out.

So, I have a question here. My roommate's mom is a doctor and, according to her, it's very suspect that Clemens would be injected with Lidocaine unless he were to undergo a surgical procedure. I know Roger has had hammy issues and Lidocaine is a local anesthetic, but injecting it into the buttocks seemed very weird to her and made her immediately think that his story is implausible.

Any doctors care to chime in on this? My account of her opinions is second hand (from her son), so it might have been lost in translation.

It's not the answers at this point its the questions. They're either spinning their questions or just can't keep everything straight at this point and it's getting very confusing for them to try to answer.

I agree, but the last guy asked a yes or no question about the Canseco party and the guy that helped write the Mitchell report just blathered on and on.

Its easy to pick out who clemens chatted up the days before this, this Davis guy seems to want to replace Debbie Clemens as Roger's wife.

This was over with Pettite said Roger used imo, he is the only one I believe.

I also love how they are using McNamee lying about Clemens not using steroids as a way to destroy his character over Clemens using steroids. You can't have it both ways congress. Either he lied and Clemens used, or he didn't lie and you can't cut his character down.

The guy from Indiana mis-spoke. He jumped McNamee's case big time, and said McNamee lied "under oath" about his conflicting stories. Talking to a reporter for a story is NOT under oath. Did McNamee contradict himself? Sounds like it. But, is he lying now?

Yeah, but it was an incorrect assumption behind the question. They guy couldn't answer it.

The question stemmed from whether steroids were discussed at the meeting. Mitchell's guy stated the report said a meeting took place, per Canseco...but not what was discussed. The fact that Canseco then said there was no meeting does not question the validity of the statement because, as Mitchell's guy said, Canseco was not sworn when he spoke to the Report people.

I'm more concerned with the part of her testimony in which she said Rogers told her that "the reason she doesn't remember the party is (Roger) wasn't there" when he talked to her this past Sunday AT HIS HOUSE AFTER THE COMMITTEE ASKED FOR HER CONTACT INFO AND BEFORE ROGER TURNED THAT INFO OVER TO THE COMMITTEE. Now why would he have to tell her to say that?

I really think he attempted to tamper with the witness. I think the committee is going to want to get more detailed information from her. A deposition or even a sworn statement after this concludes.

More proof that Roger's lawyers are in WAY over their heads. I mean the committee contacts Hardin for the nanny's number. Hardin calls Roger and says, "they want the nanny's number". Roger then replies, "Maybe I should talk to her first." Hardin then says, "Good idea, Roger." :?:

Someone's going down for this series of events and this time, Roger will have no one to blame but himself.

Roger will come back to pitch in 2008 with SOMEBODY ( most likely Houston since they paying him anyways ) to try and prove he is clean.

The problem there is the Astros don't want him after what he pulled last year, and don't have the salary room to add him.

They're paying him a personal services contract only after he retires, which he hasn't done yet, and if he is found guilty by Congress, I have a feeling McLane would drop his contract offer.

Plus the Astros have enough Mitchell heat with the Tejada investigation. The last thing they need right now is another steroids distraction, or to be seen as the "cheater team".

In the end, Roger will go back to the Yankees or Red Sox if they'll have him, since they're the only ones who will pay him what he wants, and stroke his ego enough for his satisfaction. But who knows, maybe the Rangers are dumb enough...

The telling part is how quickly the attorneys stood up to pitch a *****. You were asked 2x by the committee before Sunday to give them the nanny info...and you didn't. I think Waxman got the exact response he was looking for.

Hank Steinbrenner wants no part of him.

The Red Sox may have taken him back last year because they thought that giving him a chance to break Cy Young's record for most wins as a Red Sox would interest the historian in Roger. Red Sox fans would have cheered him.

Now???????????

You have a better chance of seeing White Sox fans cheer the Cubs than Roger coming back to Boston.

It wouldn't be witness tampering in a civil case by any means. Roger flat out lied about the entire situation.

He said Zito was injured and unwilling to pitch and just collect a paycheck. Which is untrue. The USA Today article I linked previously competely refutes that.

He said he was already on vacation with his family and made it sound like MLB had to find him and beg him to come play. Considering 2003 was suppose to be his retirement year, it was more like Selig was doing him a favor by sending him out with a final All Star Game. Honestly I think he has himself convinced that he really didnt take them.

And meanwhile, the housing crisis, economic slump(can't say "r" word yet), iraq war, etc, etc. all take a back seat....

Actually one of the Reps took almost all his alloted time to address concerns like yours. Pretty much saying this type of thing is always going on with this committee and the fact that its such a glamarous case is the reason its soo publicized. He wanted it known that this is not taking precedent over the other issues they work on.

Now the idiot old lady is talking.

"Oh, you look the same size."

HGH/steroids do not mean an increase in size.

That "idiot lady" is the right about one thing. This whole thing is a waste of time and tax dollars.

I really think Clemens is lying.

I think you're oversimplifying a bit for two reasons.

1) Your profile says you're a software engineer. When you go to a meeting to discuss future project B, does that mean current project A has taken a back seat? When you research possible endeavors down the road, are you abandoning everything you're working on right now? No. It'd be foolish to say that a one-day hearing is somehow leaving other national issues twisting in the wind forever, or that this one day would somehow end a war or resolve a real estate market problem.

2) Major League Baseball is an industry predicated on the idea that what we, the consumers, are seeing is a match-up of athletes with the same tools and methods of competition and training at their disposal (within reason, save for some technicalities on on-site equipment). It is also predicated on the idea that everyone has the same rules within the game, and everyone follows the law with regards to their bodies as it affects the outcome of games. When you introduce something like illegal prescriptions for PEDs into the equation of a federally protected, antitrust exempt operation like MLB, you're talking about turning it into a fraud; a confidence operation to the tune of $6 billion.

I personally don't care what Clemens, Bonds, or anyone else sticks into their bodies in the name of chemically-enhanced glory, but don't tell me everyone feels the same way, and please don't tell me it doesn't matter. If Congress were misrepresenting what $6 billion worth of taxes were paying for, and everyone knew it, wouldn't you want someone to do something about it? Why should baseball be any different?

Being at work, I can't watch this. Just following it here and on the espn blog, but the way it sounds, I'm picturing the end of the movie Quiz Show when Charles Van Doren is on the hot seat. "That was such a great statement. In all my years..." Need one of them to be the guy who says, "I'm not going to commend you simply for telling the truth." Or in this case, "someone who throws a baseball really fast."

So if McNamee would've dragged everyone he treated, he'd be a better witness? Can they possibly persecute this guy more than they have? The chairman gives him a straight up question, and Clemens interjects.

I am probably just cynical but I think both look worse. Brian basically said he's lied in the past about this, but he's not lying now. But everyone that Brian said was doing HGH admitted to it except Roger. Makes my head spin.
It was interesting to listen to Brian's camp spin this as a win and I'm sure Roger's camp is doing the same.

The thing I look at is McNammee has already been known to be scummy BEFORE this. I especially think he got some credibility at the end when the chairman pretty much apologized for some unwarranted comments from his colleagues.

Pettite confirmed what 95% of us already suspected, and Clemens has foolishly painted himself into a corner. He has no choice but to continue with this charade, lest he finds himself in prison. Clemens had a chance to avoid Pete-Roseville by acting like a man, but that time has passed. His legacy is forever tarnished, he will not enter the hall of fame, even though he certainly "deserves" the honor based on his accomplishments alone. Sorry Roger, but you're an idiot...if you would have simply said something like..."I took roids/HGH, like the majority of professional athletes do, and I'm not ashamed of this fact" the fans would probably forgive you in due time...good luck with that now...I almost, and I stress almost, feel for the guy...he received some bad advice somewhere along the line...
