But he wouldn't waive his no trade clause to come here.

Center fielder Jim Edmonds read the graffiti on the wall — "Rasmus" — and similarly agreed to waive his no-trade protection in return for a comfortable landing spot. (The Southern California native rejected a deal with the Chicago White Sox before accepting another with the San Diego Padres.) David Eckstein took exception to the organization's negotiating tact and parlayed free agency into a disillusioning one-year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he and Rolen will share exile.

Man...somebody was bored at 2:40am.

Seriously though, I'm glad that didn't go down. That's all we need is a quickly aging veteran CF.

Last time he played here he knocked himself out landing on the USCF CF turf. Maybe the ground is just too hard for him.

Wow. If the choice was between Edmonds and Swisher, I'm real glad that didn't go through.

Jim Edmonds is Darin Erstad with power and a good outfield arm.

While I'd rather see Swisher in another position (LF or 1B), I'd rather have him over Edmonds in CF. Give me Edmonds a few years ago and then we can talk. Edmonds as he is now, no.

Let's see....April, May and October games in Chicago or San Diego?

Tough choice.

I suspect Edmonds' price was a tad lower than 3 of the organization's top 5 prospects.

Swisher > Edmonds

If this story is true...well, thank god he passed on us.

Well obviously. But Gio and DLS could have been, and probably would have been imo, used to upgrade something else. Edmonds would have been ok had it allowed us to upgrade somewhere else, like the rotation, but who knows what KW was planning.

Well Jim Edmonds is one of my least favorite players ever.

I think Edmonds would have ended up on the DL for half the season as usual. He is far too fragile at this stage in his career and his best playing days are behind him. Swisher is no question the better, younger, and more durable player than Edmonds. The only plus I'd give Edmonds over Swish would be on CF defense.
