I went to the card shop today. Topps and Upper Deck released their first series of cards for 2008 this week.

The bottom row has a 2008 Topps Konerko and Gload on the left. Konerko's card looks like a shot from the Cubs series. The Topps design has a retro feel to it, and it looks good. Also on the bottom row, on the right, are the 2008 Upper Deck cards for Thome and Big Frank. Upper Deck always has great photography, case in point with the Thome card being from his 500th HR game.

Top row includes a Lance Broadway certified auto from '06 and a Fields auto from '07, along with two '06 Topps black chrome refractor cards: Dye and BA.

The Topps cards look awesome. You're right, very retro.

Upperdeck look almost too professional. Still very nice cards.

He's so good on defense, his hands give off an energy field.....

Am I wrong or does that Anderson card say "Rookie Card?" I thought that was in 06.

Yeah, it's very convoluted and makes little sense. In 2006, MLB required the card companies to start using that rookie card logo. However, that's not even close to being Anderson's rookie card. He had a Topps card in 2005. He's had cards going back to 2004 in Upper Deck. I don't get it.

For truly retro, wait until Topps Heritage comes out later this month. They're using 1959 design for this year's set, and it's going to be sensational. Heritage is still the one set I try to put together every year, and its well worth it.

Do they still sell bubble gum with those cards? I remember as a kid getting a stick of bubble gum with every pack of baseball cards that you bought. Bubble gum was never very good but the cards were pretty awesome. Some of you will probably be too youing to know exactly what I'm talking about.

Thats the way things rolled back in the day.........as the youg people say today.

I don't recall getting a pack of cards with gum in it since the late 80's early 90's IIRC

talk about a hobby that went to the wayside;oversaturated market back in the late 80's early 90's.
