Just wanted to give a shoutout and a big Thank You to Kenny "The Man" Williams.

Thanks for bringing home a WS title a few years ago.

Thanks for putting an even stronger team on the field the following year even if it didn't get over the hump for whatever reason.

Thanks for making strong moves when many said it was hopeless to at least give a reason for hope this coming year and for creating a chance be it slim or fat that the Sox will be in the playoffs in 2008 when many said it was impossible.

Thank you for my bright new shiny toys, Swisher, Cabrera, Linebrink and Dotel.

Thanks for making the team not only better but younger too.

Thanks for getting ahead of the curve on younger less expensive pitching. Hope your moves pay off.

Thanks for never saying, "this can't be our year."

Thanks for valuing the big league team above the prospects and trading whoever whenever to make that big league team better.

Thanks for going full steam ahead.

Thanks for caring.

Thanks for making me proud to be a Sox fan.

BTW: You forgot Quentin and Alexi Ramirez. Two shiny toys that we could love for years.

Thanks Voo...for expressing what so many of us think.

Kenny isn't perfect. No GM is. But he's done a mighty fine job building a team to be proud of.

I'll wait until they actually prove they can do it on the major league level, but hopefully I can add them both to the list in a few years. All the others are expected to perform. I don't even thing Rameriz will be on the big league team this year.

Nate Silver of BP projects Alexi's PECOTA as: .295/.342/.452

A .794 OPS in his rookie year? I'd be delighted!

Of course he thinks our staff will suck so...

Post of the week if you ask me. It's so great to hear someone express what I am feeling instead of the dark clouds that seem to rule the board every offseason.

Hey Jab, is the dork with the glasses Murph? If so, hahahahahahahaha!!!

Also, I know predictions are worth **** in the overall scheme of things, but Ramirez has talent and can be a real dark horse for us.

I'm definitely looking forward to ST just to see him if nothing else.

Do you have Contreras as your 4th starter? or who? I think if the Sox are in contention mid July and one of the Starters are struggling then Kenny will make a trade for a reliable starter.

Yes - that is what Mike Murphy looks like.

My only point is that predicting for Ramirez is a major crap shoot. It's one thing to make projections for guys who have a history in this league. It's another with guys in college/minors. But to make such lofty predictions for Alexi given what little we know is sheer voodoo. (no pun intended). I sure hope he does become that sort of player - but to me, this is just the same as a draft pick. I'm not holding my breath.

I'd just give Alexei the benefit of the doubt by already seeing major league pitching in the WBC and do pretty good. I say that Alexei has a 20% chance of making the team out of spring training (only a great ST) and I give Alexei a 45% chance of becoming an impact player/starting player in his career.

I hope you are right - but I can't believe so many GMs would be so wrong to not give this guy decent money if the odds are that good in his favor.

I hope so...but I have low expectations on this move.

Maybe they thought he would have a hard time getting here or something, I really hope that Ramirez comes out to be a major steal and helps the sox In the short term and long term future.

Right now my starting rotation is most likely Buehrle, Vazquez, Contreras, Danks, Floyd. I'm PRETTY sure Danks will be okay. I have zero confidence in Floyd, who is another of Williams' patented live arms...and we know how well they seem to work out.

Yeah, but the law of large numbers says one of those live arms has to be decent eventually...right?

Right?

If I remember correctly, 29 GMs were very wrong not to give Iguchi good money as well back in 2005. Occasionally the Sox scouting staff gets one right, hopefully this is another time.

I liked Iguchi - but he hit .278/.342/.438 in 05. I'm not sure that was far off of what people predicted - was it?

#'s out of the #2 spot for a "bunt-and-steal" manager, as Ozzie often was in 2005, aren't really a fair measure of a player's ability.

Iguchi often had to give himself up, either on bunts or hit-and-runs. That is to say, he often had to hit to the right side even though the vast majority of his power was to LF

Excellent post Voodoo!

I think Kenny's greatest trait is, he wants to win it all every year, just like the fans. He expects perfection in himself and his team, just like the fans. And when he loses, hit hurts like hell, just like how the fans feel.

I expect to take a photo like this on opening day 2009 like I did on opening day 2006:

He's given us quite a ride in eight years.
