So David Wells is looking for work and has no bias to what part of the country he works in.

I know that he's old as dirt and there's no guarantee that he's better than Danks or Floyd, but I'd really like us to bring in a vet on a cheap deal to compete with the kids.

Do you guys see him as an option?

Who else is out there? Benson, maybe?

Nope. I'd even prefer crap Contreras.

You know how much money we would have to spend on those jerseys?

Along with Kenny Lofton, he's a guy I don't want back in our clubhouse again based on his behaviour when he was here the first time.

Fair enough.

I do think it's important to bring in somebody to compete with the kids, though.

I thought that person was Bartolo Colon, but his contract demands are ridiculous.

The rest of the free agent class include:
Hernandez, Garcia, Lohse, Weaver, Fogg, Benson, Odalis Perez...

I guess I'd give an incentive laden deal to John Thomson, but he's pitcher 188 innings over the last 3 seasons.

The guy can pitch though.

I'd welcome Freddy back with open arms if we knew anything at all about his health.

Hernandez is the best FA left on the market, and I'm sure some terrible team will break the bank for him.

Running out of safety net options.

I'm not sure we need to burn the kind of $ it would take to do this, and I don't believe we have a spot in the pen to stash someone. But if we were to do that, I'd be very opposed to David Wells.

Wells is finished. He couldn't even stay respectable in the NL West last year.

What about Bensons health? Could the Sox sign him to a minor league or an incentive laden deal?

Unless the Sox get a top pitcher like Bedard, I don't want them signing anyone. I'd rather stick with the kids.

I agree. I'd still like to see us pursue one of the Pirates young 3 SPs.

I'd rather have the recently-departed Heath Philips.

After he quit on the team in 2001 and stole a season's worth of Reinsdorf's money? No.

Don't wake up the Friends of Lofton who will quickly point out that Lofton is so valuable that he has played in every postseason dating back to 1938.

I thought about Wells today also when I heard he wasn't biased to any part of the country.

However, no. Disaster the first time, why repeat the same mistakes?

I like Livan Hernandez. Yes, he can't strike anyone out anymore, but he knows how to pitch and is playoff tested. Plus an innings eater. I'm not saying we pencil him into the rotation, but at least let him compete.

Isn't it a possibility that Freddy might miss the whole season? Or at least most of it? Pass.

I would picture Odalis Perez being a disaster. He tried out for the Phillies today. He needs to stay in the NL.

Weaver may not be a bad option. Brutal at times, but showed he could still pitch a little last year in Seattle.

Tony Armas may be a guy to try and sign to a minor league deal or something. If memory serves me correctly, he's had some problems with injuries, but had some decent years with Montreal and is only 29.

Out of the group, Hernandez, Armas, Weaver, and Benson would probably be the best bets.

Only once has David Wells blown a 4 run lead.

Some of you might recall it

Wow. 29? It seems like he's been around much longer. What year was the Pedro trade?

We just need to bring in a vet on a minor league deal or something and have him just compete with the young guys and even possibly Contreras.

At Sox Fest Ozzie stated that Freddy would not pitch this year. He seemed quite confident, and we all know how close he is to Garcia.

David Wells is a complete thief. He was fat, out of shape, with a big mouth his one year (actually 3 months before the big fat tub of goo's back went out) with the White Sox.

His act is 100% bull****.

If that is true, that is incredible. Say what you want about Wells, the man's a gamer.
