You'll be kind of stunned to find out Gio didn't make the list and Poreda did. DLS is on there at 57.

(I know 2 of the 3 names I mentioned were traded i'm not stupid, I just though it was interesting Gio didn't even make it on there.)

Edit: It's a free insider article btw

Actually, no. Keith Law is an idiot.

How can Andrew Brackman be in the top 100 when he's out for 2008 from elbow surgery? Jeez.....

Law is not terrible in terms of judging prospects. I agree hes a flake with big league talent, and often goes for the popular comment first, but hes a good judge on minor league players. This list was not a big shock. It is no secret the rap on Gio has always been he uses his stuff well at AA, but the way he pitches and the way he relies on his offspeed stuff and does not control the plate well, would hurt him at the pros even if he gets away with it at double A.

Still tough to read the big difference between Poreda and Porcello. That could haunt us, but only time will tell.

That and Lincoln missing all of 2007 after Tommy John.

Porcello is a four-pitch pitcher with a big fastball and has been compared to Josh Beckett. Poreda is a one-pitch pitcher with a big fastball who has been compared to Matt Thornton. Not a terrible pick with a late first-round selection, but Porcello is a very high ceiling guy who would not have been available except for price.

Law has never seen (or certainly not seen much of) most of the players he ranks.

Do you know this for a fact?

I would like to know why Law and Jim Callis are about 5 miles an hour off on Gio's fastball?

Haha...yeah. Except for number of pitches they can throw effectively. At this stage, Poreda is a one trick pony.

Being a lefty is an advantage as well. You don't find many left-handers that throw 100 mph.
