A little blurb on new additions Willy Mota and Miguel Socolovich can be found here (http://mvn.com/milb-redsox/2008/01/28/the-departed-willy-mota-and-miguel-socolovich/), here (http://www.soxprospects.com/players/mota-willy.htm), and here (http://www.soxprospects.com/players/socolovich-miguel.htm). Not much new. Mota has a hard, straight FB and no secondary pitches. Socolovich sounds like he has some movement on his FB and sits in the high-80's to low-90's with an average slider and an improving change.

Also, I was looking into new international signings aside from Alexei Ramirez but it's kind of hard since the Sox don't make that info public very often, and when they do it's usually hidden at the bottom of some article.

Phil Rogers mentioned the Juan Silverio signing in an article (http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2007/12/fast-food-for-1.html) that has already been posted and in it he names two teenage shortstops, Alexander Adame and Daurys Merecedes, also being signed out of the DR. Silverio is 16, a SS, and a five tool talent who signed for $600K. This site (http://diehardbaseball.net/ar/t23146.htm) says Adame is 16 and Mercedes is 17, but nothing more. I couldn't find anything on signing bonuses or scouting reports.

Then there's a post on a Red Sox board (http://www.talksox.com/forum/red-sox-minor-leagues/9317-sox-intl-signings-5.html) that says this:

The White Sox have signed 17 yrs catcher Jaime Andres Del Valle and 19 yrs first baseman Hector Acuna out of Colombia.Couldn't find any further info on those players either. If anyone has more info on any of these players, please post it here.

Nice research on all of this. We signed 3 Dominican shortstops and a catcher? Glad to see we're trying to target our weaknesses within our organization. I like our odds that at least one of them turns out to be productive on a big-league level.......

I hope.......

I find those signings very interesting and very encouraging. It is evidence that the Sox are starting to aggressive about developing their own talent and it looks like they are paying some decent money to get this talent. In two or three years, the Sox should start to see some of the fruits of these initiatives.

Good news on the international front. Sometimes you have to get them real young out of these areas. I like these moves.
