Well, I guess we have to wait for an official announcement, but it sounds like this deal will get done.

King Felix and Bedard now becomes potentially the best 1-2 in baseball. And Batista, Washburn and Silva isn't a bad way to round out that rotation.

I think the Mariners are still probably one good hitter away from being able to take out the Angels. But if nothing, in a division that will have a rebuilding A's team and a bad Rangers team, the Mariners should contend and give the Angels a run for their money.

Depending on who the Mariners gave up, they would be the perfect team to go after Jason Bay.

I would imagine they are simply trying doing a bit of damage control since the deal isn't official yet and they didn't want the word out. If Adam Jones is telling the truth that he is on his way to Baltimore for a physical, and there's certainly no reason for him to lie, then it sure sounds like this deal will be done soon.

That team is a joke to deal with. Angelos probably hasn't signed off on it, so MacPhail has already learned not to get ahead of himself. I'll believe it when an official team release comes out.

I would probably rather have Brandon Webb and Dan Haren, but you can't go wrong either way.

All those games against the A's and Rangers could also put them in the thick of the Wild Card race.

For every 1 poster here who comes to a rational conclusion about the Bedard sweepstakes, there will be 10 others that need to be talked off the ledge.

If Jones is part of this deal there's no way the Sox could have matched - he was penciled into Seattle's Opening Day line-up. :o: Only a few teams have the kind of talent/money to match the offer the Mariners seemed to be willing to part with.

Balt has asked for Jones, Jeff Clement and either Morrow or Sherril. We could have matched the third - by giving up one of the two pitchers we used to get Swisher. But we have nobody close to the other two prospects.

Bedard was never really within our reach given what Baltimore wants.

Its hard to envision a package that gets Bedard for us. Perhaps if we hadn't made the Swisher deal something like Fields, Gio, DLS and one more piece gets us in the running, but even that probably doesn't do it.

Once the Bedard deal is complete, Is Hendry about to get fleeced by MacPhail of all people? This article in SI suggests as soon as Bedard is dealt, Roberts will be heading to the Cubs.

Pie and Gallagher for Roberts? Seems like a big price to pay. :redneck

That wouldn't be bad at all for the Cubs. Pie is turning into the Cubs version of Brian Anderson. Good glove, no stick on the ML level. If they could get a legit leadoff hitter for him and Gallagher they'd be lucky.

Well, IMO, the Cubs need more pitching then they do offense. Their offense should score plenty of runs but that staff might be as overrated as they come.

It seems Gallagher has some pretty good stuff. I am just not overly impressed with their staff and to trade away a young, promising pitcher seems like a bad move.

Meh, I don't know if Pie is going to continue to struggle like that. He was being bounced around a lot last season while trying to find his stroke. Very well could be BA though. I think he's younger still though.

Pie wouldn't be the first highly-touted Cub farmhand to fail with the Baby Bears, but go on to have success after being dealt.

Right...let's say for arguement's sake that would be enough. It is directionally correct. I wouldn't do that over the Swisher deal and keeping Fields. Who wouold you rather have, Swisher, Fields and whomever we get for Crede or Bedard and being forced to go with Crede and ? as our 3B plan for the future?

I've got high hopes for Fields.

You guys are right, what team would want a guy who hit .270, stole nearly 40 bases, and played 130 games in centerfield as 27-year-old?

Because his OBP ****ing sucks. Get it? It always sucks. No amount of speed can make up for even more consistent out making. Amazingly he cut down on his K's, but he has a terrible approach at the plate.

It's almost Feburary, so I guess the answer to your question is "no team."

Not to be a wise-ass, but a player is a lot more than his stats - and minor league stats only tell you so much. Jones plays in a pitchers park, and has been pretty solid. He's 21 years old - with high upside. Scouts who look at these guys a lot more than we do pretty much universally love Jones. I saw him play in 2004 in a Midwest league game when he was a SS - he was an awful fielder at that position. Moving to CF was the best thing for him.

I've never seen him play. I'm asking a genuine question to see if anyone knows. I see young with power, but I don't see a ton of avg. or a ton of speed. Of course, his #'s last season look a lot like Chris Young's in the minors without the speed. I don't know if I'd give Bedard up for Chris Young without the speed though.

Then again, at 21 maybe that Power goes way up and that's what people see. He's got a better avg. than Chris Young. Maybe he can be a 35 hr guy eventually.
