All this Colon talk has made me hungry.
This time of year is so boring for Sox news. So maybe we have time to think about some of our favorite "fat guys" who have entertained us over the years:

1B Cecil Fielder
2b Carlos Berega
SS Jonny Peralta
3B Miguel Cabera
C Smokey Burgess
LF Willie Horton
CF Hack Wilson
RF Babe Ruth (later years)
SP CC Sabbiathia, Wells, Fernado Valenzuala, Jumbo Brown
RP Bob Wickman

"While with the Braves, he began gaining notice for his weight problems. The 6'3" Forster reportedly weighed 270 pounds while with Atlanta. David Letterman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Letterman) gave the left-hander national notoriety in 1985, when he referred to the lefty as a "fat tub of goo" on his Late Night (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late_Night_With_David_Letterman) show. Forster later appeared as a guest on Letterman's show following the comments and even recorded a novelty song called "Fat Is In"."

oh yes, Mick's a good one. I think he could replace Wells, lefty for lefty. I saw him before game 1 of the 2006 WS outside the suite area smoking a cigarette. He was huge, especially in his Tiger dugout jacket. Must have been 375 at least. All smiles though.

That's because the listed weight of a player is usually taken from the press guide, is 3 years old, or, as is the case with fatties, they just fib a bit so as to not embarass a player.

E.G. Ron Belliard 5'9" 180 --- when actually he's more like 5'4" 300.

As for Carlos Castillo, he attained my dislike for the "hamburger" comment. Considering he's been thankfully out of baseball for a while, I wonder if he's been promoted from working the drive-up overnight at his local Burger King.

I was at a Sox game in Balitmore in '06 (the one where Ross Gload hit the Granny) where Boog threw out the first pitch. It was hard to tell what had a larger diameter: Boog's waistline or the Pitching Mound. It was astonishing how big he has gotten.

I think he might be getting Kirby Puckett the retired player confused with Kirby Puckett during his playing days. I agree with you, Kirby during his playing days was a beast. He blew up pretty fat though after he left baseball due to the eye condition so that could be where the "fat" label was applied to him.

Richard Dotson

If anything, he was smaller his second time here. I remember meeting up with him at the old O'Reilley's Daughter in Oak Lawn when he came back in 1989, and he really slimmed down, not that he was that big to begin with.

I couldn't even say he was borderline stocky. Dot was a pretty good athlete.

I add Rusty Staub and Dennys Reyes, both of whom had to be pushing 300 lbs easilly at one time.

Also, Dave Parker was a big guy.

I remember reading an article about Dizzy Dean weighing about 300 lbs. when he played a round of golf with Dwight Eisenhower. All the pictures of him as a player showed him to be a string bean, but I guess he balloned up nicely as he got older.

The biggest guy I ever remember was a BAL OF just a few years ago named Young. This guy was pretty tall, but he had to weigh about 320 lbs!
