I'm assuming you mean former sox greats or something. If not then you really must have blocked out '07.

30-Terrero
48-Phillips
17-Erstad
18- You may be right on Politte

Wow, I really have subconsciously blocked out the '07 nightmare. I totally forgot about Terrero and Erstad. Good call.

My mistake Phillips was 43.

Josh Stewart was #48 in 2003 and 2004, after Ritchie.

Before Erstad, Gload was #17.

I'm pretty sure these are right, except Shines wore #18 (if he counts).

BTW, when is this Ramirez deal supposed to go official?

Whenever he gets to America to take his physical.

Either Ryan Bukvich or his ERA was 63 in 2007.

I can't remember which. Maybe both.

Shines wore 18 last year. I remember it because on MLB the Show for the PS2 has the third base coach wearing "81;" and it just struck me funny that it was a flip-flop from our actual 3rd base coach.

Maybe I've blocked out '07 as well.. when I saw #17, the only player that popped into my head was Mike Caruso

Prinz and Wassermann; Bukvich was 62

You have them flip-flopped. Wassermann was 62, Bukvich was 63. I don't even remember what Prinz was, he wasn't here very long.

BTW, Wassermann should be mentioned: he's wearing 43 now.

Right.

Bret Prinz--part of the bullpen from hell.

I was wondering what Swisher would do since Javy has #33. Swisher has always been 33.

There's a picture somewhere of him wearing #30 in an A's uniform. I couldn't find it, but I'm guessing that was when he was first called up. :dunno:

Before Erstad, Gload was #17.

And before Gload, Graffanino was #17.

#17 reminds me most of Tony Grafinino

If you want to go back further, Carlos May wore that number.

I'm tempted to get a Swisher jersey since he is going to be around for 5 years. However, with my luck, I'll shell out the $$ for a #30 Swisher jersey and he'll make some kind've deal with Javy in Spring Training to switch numbers with him.

Don't take my word for it, but...

I don't think a veteran would ever ask for another veteran's number. Of course there are some cases (like Frank taking 35 in Toronto), but I don't see it happening here. Vazquez has also always been #33. I think it's a safe bet to say Swisher will always wear #30 in a Sox uniform.

EDIT: I'm actually wrong about Javy; he was #23 elsewhere. So, don't buy it.

I seem to remember Billy Koch getting #44 away from Rowand a few years ago in Spring Training by giving him a brand new PC. Gload switched from #26 to #17 one year. Garland switched from #52 to #20 one Spring Training. I'm sure there are a few more that I'm missing but I guess it is those memories that are making me tread lightly on my Swisher jersey purchase.

I dont think the point he was making was that players dont ask other players to switch numbers, but that veterans wouldnt ask other veterans to switch. The examples of Rowand and Garland dont fit because they couldnt be considered at the time. I dont know remember the reasoning behind Gload switching, but it may have been giving deference to a starter as he was a bench player. I agree with waiting until the season starts though, as my neighbor was a victim of buying a Rowand WS Jersey a week before he was traded.

I wasn't really disagreeing with oeo's point but just pointing out some more examples of guys switching up #s during Spring Training which can screw fans who are buying jerseys at that time. I remember seeing some fans with #44 Rowand jerseys the year he switched to #33 before and I also remember some Garland #52 jerseys being out there as well. I guess I don't want to be the only fool with a #30 Swisher jersey when he is wearing #33. However, I do agree with oeo that the chances are better than avg that Vazquez won't give up his #33 since he is a vet with more time logged in MLB and moving into his 3rd year with the Sox. Perhaps I'll gamble because I know Grandstand gets busier the closer it gets to Opening Day.

Dotel will wear #26, although it should probably be retired for Andy Gonzalez.

If Crede gets traded, Dye might go back to #24, which he wore most of his career, Javy might take over Dye's 23, the number he wore in Montreal, and then Swisher can get 33.

I am so happy that Carlos Quentin is number 17 since I have a generic number 17 jersey and have never really been really excited about anyone who has that number before. From Graffanino, to Raphael Santana, to Ross Gload, to Erstad (because of him I would not wear the jersey) and now to Carlos Quentin!!
