View Full Version : Robin Ventura reporting to spring training this year...

Ventura will spend his days playing some catch and some golf and swapping tales with his old White Sox buddies in Tucson, Ariz. And, chances are, he can top any story Harold Baines, Ozzie Guillen, Joey Cora or Greg Walker shares. Ventura is walking around with someone else's bone in his ankle.

Oh. I thought he was going to compete with Crede and Fields for the third base spot.

Still my all time favorite Sox player.

(Clearly.)

Can he play SS? Maybe he can replace Uribe....not sure if that should be in teal or not :?:

One of my all-time favorite Sox. Liked the way he played in college at Oklahoma State and was happy as could be that he played for the Sox.

Had an opportunity to meet him once and he was as nice a guy as he was a ballplayer.

Easily my favorite player of all time.

If we trade Konerko, Ventura can play first.

Just kidding.

It's good to see Ventura returning to the organization, even if it's just for a spring training visit. I wouldn't be surprised if the association increases sometime in the future.

Can't we let Cabrera have a bad April before we bury him?

A strong March then a bad April.

If the Sox are committed to Fields at third base long-term, they could do much worse than to hire Ventura to tutor Fields on the finer points of fielding the position.

EXCELLENT! Gives me yet another reason--if I needed one--to head down to the Saturday before schedule workout. :D:

Quoted for truth. Are the Sox still looking for a 3rd base coach to replace Shines?

I would LOVE for Robin to be a part of the coaching staff.

Lucky you! Glad to hear Robin's coming around again. I've missed him.

No. Jeff Cox has all ready been appointed third base coach.

I was at his comeback game from the injury. He got a game winning double. Robin rules.

Very nice to read that his leg is better, that was certainly one of the most gruesome sports injuries ever. His wife was in hysterics as she was led down to the field and a woman sitting in the first row near home plate passed out after seeing the injury.

He won't be back in any fulltime capacity as a coach or broadcaster until his kids have grown up. He has stated that many times along with McDowell.

I can appreciate that.

I never saw the injury, but from all reports it was Joe Theisman-esque in gruesome details......

I see this "famous/infamous" picture (the one on the right), as autographed by Nolan Ryan at a lot of sports memorabilia auctions.
