The 1959 bullpen of Gerry Staley and Turk Lown was a key component of the pennant-winning team. Staley was 8-5 (2.24) in the regular season and pitched well in 8 innings (2.16) in the WS. Three-time All Star and member of the Washington State Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame. Thanks for the memories, Gerry.

That's sad news. I still remember that one pitch in Cleveland. 6-3 DP. Sox win the pennant for the first time in 40 years and, as it turned out, the last time for another 46.

RIP Gerry.

I know I am getting older when these guys pass away. Gerry was a savior for many years with the Sox. He was a very nice guy too as I was able to get his
autograph several years ago. Didn't see it mentioned, but Jack Lamabe died just before Christmas. I remember seeing a game he pitched against the Red Sox in 66 or 67 on a Satuday game of the week. He shutout them out and I think it was a 1-hitter.

Mike:

J.C. Martin talks about that game in his interview with WSI. (i.e. Jack's one hitter)
