If healthy seems like this guy (Lew Ford) would be a great addition to any team... and I hope it ends up the Sox.

Yeah, I sure do want a guy with a sub 700 OPS the last couple of years.

A major league player that's a minor league free agent. Gee, I wonder why.

Lew Ford is close to signing with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan.

Ford is choosing to cross the Pacific after receiving only non-guaranteed offers from major league teams. The 31-year-old outfielder hit .233/.315/.362 in 116 at-bats for the Twins last season.
He put Erstad like numbers (except he showed more walking abilities) in only 116 at-bats.

Can the White Sox add Denny Hocking to the roster as well?

Lew Ford must have been hitting about .150 against the rest of the league because he always seemed like a Sox-killer to me.

We could always use him whenever we play in Minny to hit his 50 foot high choppers for cheap singles.

When are we going to give Scott Ruffcorn his chance?

Lew Ford could be a HOF'er if he played all 162 games against the White Sox.

If his entire career line was like his line in MIN he would be a decent player. His career splits:
Home: 288/365/424/789
Away: 255/332/379/711

Has the offseason been that bad that people want bad players to come to the team?

I think that we will have plenty of unproven talent to try and watch develop.

I'd take a chance on Ford. The White Sox love reclamation projects. Call me crazy but for the money it cost San Diego, I would have taken a chance on Mark Prior.

That's comparing apples to chainsaws. At his absolute very tip-top total best Lew Ford might be a decent utility man. If, in some bizarre twist of fate, Mark Prior suddenly becomes healthy and pitches up to what he is capable of, he can be a #1 starter. Lew Ford brings grindyness.

Since you mention Prior...
Maybe Kris Benson is an option.

I sorta feel like Kenny owes me a Christmas gift, better hurry before all the bargains are gone!

I understand what you're sawing about apple and chainsaws but I'm saying that there are bargains out there that won't cost much. Sure Ford is a grinder and that's good. He's still young enough yet to have a decent career. Prior can too. I was just speaking in general baseball terms. I've been around long enough to know the difference between a pitcher and a position player.

I wasn't comparing them due to their positions, but their ceilings. A truly healthy, mentally and physically, Mark Prior can be a #1 starter, a top 10 or 15 in MLB pitcher. Lew Ford, on his very bestest best day in his entire life, is Rob Mackowiak.

Well one thing you can almost assure if we got Lew Ford would be that he could actually judge a ball in center field and might actually be a good outfielder

True, but we've already got a guy who can't put up an OPS over 700 in the system who catches damn near anything in CF in Brian Anderson. If I want a ****ty hitter who can catch in CF, I'll just root for him to get the job.

I hope someone's fixed the four flat tires, busted alignment, bad brakes, and the fact the driver has no clue where he's going.
