Jonathan Papelbon said his dog ate the ball from the final out of the 2007 World Series.
"My dog ate it," Papelbon said. "He plays with baseballs like they are his toys. His name is Boss. He jumped up one day on the counter and snatched it. He likes rawhide. He tore that thing to pieces. Nobody knows that. I'll keep what's left of it." It would have been more fitting if the dog was named Mientkiewicz.

My dog ate my steroids all the time, except the one day I actually did take them, just that one day and I am truly sorry and repentent.

Great now ESPN.com has the story, WEEI going nuts over it.

It was inevitable something screwy would happen to the ball. If it wasn't Papelbon's dog, then Manny would have tossed it on a grill with some peppers or Schilling would have burned it as a sacrifice to some vengeful god.

Hundreds of Cubs fans ate the Bartman ball... The media went crazy about that too. Those teams are even more simmilar than we realized!

I think Papelbon is hitting fungos with it.

It's stuff like this that illustrate just how much classier Paul Konerko is. There was no mystery around "the ball" whatsoever. Konerko did the right thing! I guess that is a foreign idea for Red Sox players.

Everytime Papelbon talks or really even moves a muscle in his body I hate him more and more.

And if by "My dog ate the ball" he means "I put the ball in a glass case that I proudly display on my mantle until someone comes over that can't know I have the ball and then I move it to my office", then yeah, I totally buy that!

Players on any Red Sox World Series team in the future shouldn't be allowed to keep the final out. Chaos seems to ensue everytime it happens.

Who said there was a mystery about the whereabouts of the '07 ball? It was given to him after Game 4, everyone knew about it.

I have heard some Lame oh excuses before but this absolutely takes the cake. What was he doing ? Talking to his 3 year old next door neighbor to come up with this one because he couldn't come up with a good excuse on his own?

"Bottom of the ninth 2 out 2 strikes, the Red Sox are going to make a pitching and defense change, Theo Epstein will be coming in for Paplebon and John Henry will be coming in to play first."

Except for those two pesky Series rings the BoSox are sporting for '04 and '07. :D:

Can Francona come in and play left?
